<div><strong>Sicherung der Lebensgrundlage vulnerabler Dorfgemeinschaften durch Schutz der Küstenökosysteme sowie ökologischen Landbau in Tamil Nadu, Indien</strong>

<div>Durch unsere Arbeit in Dorfprojekten zur <a href="https://space2live.org/de/projekte/indien/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sicherung der Landrechte von Dalit Gemeinschaften</a> ("Unberührbare") in Tamil Nadu (Indien), haben wir miterlebt, dass die örtlichen Dorfgemeinschaften entlang der Küste zunehmend in ihrer Existenz bedroht sind, da die Meeres- und Küstenökosysteme zerstört werden und die Erosion entlang der Küste von Tamil Nadu drastisch zunimmt. Bedroht durch die Verschmutzung durch die Industrie und Ausweitung derer Standorte, die intensive Landwirtschaft und den Tourismus, sehen sich die lokalen Gemeinschaften konfrontiert, ihre Lebensgrundlage zu verlieren und schließlich gezwungen zu sein, ihre Häuser und Siedlungen zu verlassen.

<div>Entsprechend unseren Erfahrungen aus <a href="https://space2live.org/de/mapping-success-stories-in-tamil-nadu-south-india_____/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vorläuferprojekten</a> im Distrikt Villupuram, sowie einer <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/332182469_Ensuring_climate_resilience_and_social_empowerment_for_Dalit_farming_communities_in_rural_Tamil_Nadu" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dezidierten Studie 2018</a>, gilt es neben dem Küstenschutz auch <strong>Maßnahmen zur Ernährungssicherung</strong> zu ergreifen, um die Lebensgrundlagen der Dalitgemeinschaften langfristig und nachhaltig abzusichern. Die Maßnahmen <strong>richten sich insbesondere an die Frauen und Jugendlichen</strong> der Dörfer und umfassen die:

<li>Förderung und Festigung <strong>kleinbäuerlicher Strukturen</strong> und 
</li>
<li>vor allem die Etablierung einer nachhaltigen, <strong>ökologischen Landwirtschaft</strong>, sowie
</li>
<li>Unterstützung von <strong>Restitutionsforderungen</strong>.

<div>Dies dient insbesondere dem Ziel die Dorfgemeinschaften gegen die bereits erkennbaren, drastischen <strong>Folgen des Klimawandels in Tamil Nadu</strong> zu wappnen und einen hohen Grad an <strong>Klimaresilienz</strong> zu erreichen.

<div>Mit unserer <a href="https://space2live.org/de/mitmachen/crowdfunding-kuestenschutz-indien/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Kampagne</strong></a> beginnen wir, einen Rahmen für die lokale Unterstützung von Dorfgemeinschaften (insbesondere Fischerinnen und Fischer) zu schaffen und die Finanzierung von praktischen <strong>Maßnahmen</strong> 
</div>
<div>  <strong>1)	zum Schutz der Küstenökosysteme und für Mangrovenpflanzungen und</strong>
</div>
<div><strong>  2)	zur Etablierung und langfristigen Umsetzung einer ökologischen Landbewirtschaftung</strong>
</div>

<div>in drei Dörfern - nämlich <em>Akkaraipettai, Nambiyarnagar</em> und <em>Seruthur</em> im <em>Nagappattinam Distrikt</em> - umzusetzen. Dabei begleiten wir – <em>Space2live</em> zusammen mit der <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TNLRF/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Tamil Nadu Land Rights Federation</em></a><em> (TNLRF)</em> - die Fischergruppen in Planung und Durchführung von gemeinschaftlichen bzw. öffentlichen Arbeiten. Die reine Arbeitsleistung wird wiederum staatlich gefördert im Rahmen des <em>"Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (MNREGA)"</em> durch Mindestlöhne für Arme und deren Leistungen im Landbau, Wassermanagement und Aufforstungen.

<div>Ziel ist, dass die Maßnahmen zur Stärkung der Küstenbewohner von diesen drei Dörfern aus weiterverbreitet und für andere gefährdete Dorfgemeinschaften entlang der Küste reproduziert werden sollen. Alle gesammelten Spenden werden direkt an unseren lokalen Partner <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TNLRF/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Tamil Nadu Land Rights Federation</em></a><em> (TNLRF)</em> überwiesen, der die Dorfbewohnerinnen bei:

<li>der Aufforstung von Mangroven, der Anpflanzung von Bäumen und dem Schutz von Sanddünen, sowie
</li>
<li>den Ausbildungskursen in biologischer Landwirtschaft, der Umwidmung konventionell bewirtschafteter Flächen und Errichtung einer lokalen Saatgut-Bank

<li>ermöglicht den <strong>Ankauf und Weitergabe von biologischem Saatgut</strong> wie Reis, Bohnen und lokalem Gemüse,

<li>ermöglicht den <strong>Ankauf und die Verteilung von Gerätschaften und Material</strong> für die Bodenbearbeitung und Mikrobewässerung  und
</li>
<li>deckt den geplanten Aufwand für Arbeiten der Küstenbewohner*innen während des kommenden Winter- und Sommermonsuns.

<div>Neben der Sicherung der Lebensgrundlage dieser Dorfgemeinschaften und dem Schutz des Küstenökosystems tragen alle Maßnahmen zum Klimaschutz und zur Anpassung an den Klimawandel bei, da insbesondere Mangroven eine wesentlich wirksamere Kohlenstoffsenke darstellen als Wälder im Landesinneren.

<div><strong>Securing the livelihoods of vulnerable village communities through coastal ecosystem protection and organic farming in Tamil Nadu, India</strong>

<div>While working in village projects in Tamil Nadu (India) to secure land rights of Dalit ("untouchable") communities and their access to land, we’ve witnessed increasing threats to the livelihoods of local village communities along the coast as marine and coastal ecosystems are getting destroyed and erosion along the Tamil Nadu coast intensifies dramatically. Caused by industrial pollution and expansion of their sites, intensive agriculture and tourism, those local communities are confronted with the loss of their livelihoods and eventually being forced to abandon their homes and settlements.

<div>In correspondence with our experience from previous projects in the Villupuram district, as well as from a dedicated study 2018, <strong>food security measures</strong> must also be taken, in addition to coastal protection, in order to sustainably secure the livelihoods of the Dalit communities in the long term. The measures are <strong>aimed in particular at women and young people</strong> in the villages and include the:

<li>promotion and consolidation of <strong>small-scale farming structures</strong> and 
</li>
<li>especially the establishment of sustainable, <strong>ecological agriculture</strong>, as well as
</li>
<li>support for <strong>restitution claims</strong>.
</li>

<div>This serves in particular the goal to prepare the village communities against the already recognizable, drastic <strong>consequences of climate change in Tamil Nadu</strong> and to achieve a high degree of <strong>climate resilience</strong>.
</div>

<div>With our<strong> </strong><a href="https://space2live.org/en/get-involved/coastal-protection-pilot-project-with-fishermens-groups-in-tamil-nadu-india/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>campaign</strong></a> we start to establish a framework for local support of village communities (especially fisherwomen and -men) together with funding of practical <strong>measures</strong>
</div>
<div>  1)  <strong>to protect coastal ecosystems and create mangrove plantations</strong> and
</div>
<div>  2) <strong>to implement a long-term ecological agriculture and land management</strong>
</div>

<div>in three villages - namely <em>Akkaraipettai, Nambiyarnagar</em> and <em>Seruthur</em> in <em>Nagappattinam district</em>. In doing so, we - Space2live together with the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TNLRF/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Tamil Nadu Land Rights Federation</em></a><em> (TNLRF)</em> - accompany the fisher groups in planning and implementation of community works. The effective work performance of the individual fishermen is in turn supported by the state within the framework of the <em>"Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (MNREGA)"</em> paying minimum wages for the poor and their effort in agriculture, water management and reforestation.

<div>Ideally those ideas of coastal empowerment interventions will spread from these three villages and therefore be replicated for other vulnerable village communities along the coast. All donations collected will directly be transferred to our local partner <em>TNLRF</em>, which supports, trains and finances villagers in

<li>reforestation of mangroves, planting of trees and protection of sand dunes as well as
</li>
<li>training courses in organic farming, conversion of conventionally farmed land and establishment of a local seed bank.
</li>
</ul>

<div><strong>Our donation goal of 8000 €:</strong>
</div>
<ul>
<li>secures the livelihood of <strong>900 inhabitants</strong> in 3 villages,
</li>
<li>provides them with <strong>45 000 mangrove seeds</strong>, as well as
</li>
<li>1<strong>50 coconut and 150 palm seedlings</strong>,
</li>
<li>supports the inhabitants in the <strong>protection and restoration of sand dunes on a total length of 4500 m</strong>, 
</li>
<li>enables purchasing <strong>dairy cows</strong> and handover to smallholder women farmers for <strong>feeding their Dalit families</strong> and for <strong>fertilizer production,</strong>
</li>
<li>enables <strong>purchasing and distributing organic seeds</strong> such as rice, beans and local vegetables,
</li>
<li>enables <strong>purchasing and distributing of tools and materials</strong> for soil cultivation and micro-irrigation and
</li>
<li>covers the planned expenses for the work of the communities during the upcoming winter and summer monsoons.

<div>In addition to securing the livelihoods of these village communities and protecting the coastal ecosystem, <strong>all measures contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation</strong>, as mangroves are in particular a much more effective carbon sink than inland forests.
