<div>Hallo, mein Name ist Natascha, ich bin 30 Jahre alt und habe sehr schweres ME/(CFS) (Myalgische Enzephalomyelitis) - eine Erkrankung die mir fast jedes Leben genommen hat. Nun ist der Zeitpunkt gekommen, wo ich euch um Hilfe bitten muss, um die Erkrankung zu überleben.

<div>Seit mehr als einem Jahr liege ich in meinem (mittlerweile fast) dunklen Zimmer, kann nur flüstern, kann nicht laufen, nicht sitzen, habe extreme Schmerzen und Reizintoleranz. Das heißt ich trage fast immer Noise-Cancelling-Kopfhörer, kann keine Hörbücher hören und momentan ein Lied am Tag hören. Mein Körper kann nur sehr wenig menschliche Präsenz ertragen, weil sich sonst alle Symptome extrem verschlechtern. Die ewige Stille und Isolation von anderen Menschen, die mir wichtig sind, ist schwer bis gar nicht zu ertragen.

<div>Ich liege hier 24/7 mit schwersten Symptomen ohne adäquate medizinische Versorgung und immer wieder neurologischen Crash-Zuständen, in denen ich über Stunden überhaupt keine Reize ertragen kann und extremste Schmerzen habe.

<div>Ich habe Pflegegrad 5. Kann mich nicht selbst versorgen, nicht waschen, Zähne putzen oder zur Toilette gehen. Daher lebe ich mit der Hilfe von Assistent:innen. Das Sozialamt hat 8,5 Stunden am Tag genehmigt (von 8-16:20 Uhr). Das reicht nicht aus, um mich zu verpflegen. Außer abends noch zwei Stunden selbstorganisiert, bin ich alleine, ohne, dass jemand da ist, der:die mir helfen kann.

<div>Das ist die Realität von Schwerstbetroffenen. Die Lebensqualität von schwerst an ME Betroffenen gehört zu den niedrigsten unter allen Krankheiten weltweit. Das bedeutet, mit einem Level an Symptomen zu leben, das vergleichbar ist mit dem von Krebspatient:innen in den letzten Lebenstagen oder dem von AIDS-Patient:innen zwei Wochen vor dem Tod. Jede kleinste Überanstrengung kann zu einer erneuten Zustandsverschlechterung führen, die mich wieder in meine schlimmste Krankheitszeit katapultierten kann. Zu dem Zeitpunkt konnte ich weder alleine essen, musste Flüssignahrung zu mir nehmen, konnte nicht alleine auf die Bettpfanne, nicht lachen und habe primär mit Klopfsprache kommuniziert. Ich lebe in ständiger Angst, dass sich mein Zustand wieder so verschlimmert.

<div>Ich vermisse es unendlich zu leben, die Sonne zu sehen, laut zu sprechen, Musik zu hören, mit Freund:innen zu sein. Ich vermisse alles am Leben. Und hoffe so sehr, dass ich es irgendwann wieder kann, dass ich ein Leben ohne Schmerzen führen kann. Ich halte jeden Tag durch, um wieder Leben zu können und mit den Menschen zu sein, die mir wichtig sind.

<div>Die Krankenkasse übernimmt bei ME keine Medikamente, spezielle Bluttests oder Behandlungen. Viele Ärzt:innen kennen sich nicht mit ME aus. Es gibt keine Heilung bisher und kein einziges zugelassenes Medikament - durch Jahrzehnte langer vernachlässigter Forschung: 40 Jahre Forschungsrückstand . Schwerstbetroffene werden sehr schlecht medizinisch betreut und haben oft keinen oder nur geringen Zugang zu medizinischer Versorgung.

<div>Durch Offlabel-Medikamnente habe ich mich etwas Stabilisieren können und kann das Handy zum Glück wieder nutzen, weshalb ich auch das gofundme unter großer Anstrengung erstellen kann. Dies gibt mir Hoffnung weiterzumachen.

<div>Um nicht irgendwann den Tod wählen zu müssen, möchte ich weitere Therapien und Medikamente ausprobieren. Da es keine zugelassene Therapie für (schwerstes) ME gibt, bin ich auf individuelle Behandlungsversuche angewiesen. Die Kosten für die Behandlungen und neue Medikamente sind sehr hoch.

<div>Leider geht mein Erspartes aus und ich kann mir die anstehenden Kosten nicht leisten. Ich bin dringend auf Unterstützung angewiesen, um sowohl die monatlichen Kosten für die Medikamente, die mir bisher Stabilität gegeben haben, als auch neue Therapien und Medikamente bezahlen zu können, die mir hoffentlich weitere Fortschritte ermöglichen. Ich bekomme “Hilfe zum Lebensunterhalt” nach SGB XII ,was nicht einmal ansatzweise ausreicht, um alleine meine Medikamente zu finanzieren. Dort ist noch kein Essen oder weitere wichtige Kostenpunkte eingerechnet.

<div>Die Kosten werden aufgrund der Krankheitsdauer noch lange bestehen und deshalb sammele ich für mehre Monate:
</div>

<ul>
<li>Alle Medikamente, die mir bisher geholfen haben, muss ich selbst bezahlen. Diese Medikamente kosten mich zusammen mehrere Hundert Euro im Monat (im Mai über 700 Euro). Und übersteigen schon alleine mein zur Verfügung stehendes Geld.
</li>
<li>neue Medikamente und Behandlungen, die ich gerne ausprobieren möchte wie bspw als nächstes Rapamycin, eine weitere SGB oder Daratumumab (mehrere Tausend Euro).
</li>
<li>Außerdem bin ich an dem Punkt in meiner Erkrankung angelangt, dass ich teure Labordiagnostik brauche um die Mechanismen von ME herauszufinden und wichtige Baustellen identifizieren zu können. Bislang habe ich darauf aufgrund der Kosten verzichtet, aber ich möchte endlich mehr wissen, um Behandlungen besser anpassen zu können (Mehrere Hundert Euro).

<li>Des Weiteren benötige ich Geld für auf ME spezialisierte Privatärzt:innen, damit ich engmaschig medizinisch betreut werden kann. Die Kosten pro Termin liegen bei 150-300 Euro und enthalten keine Blutuntersuchungen oder Behandlungen.
</li>
<li>Weitere Punkte sind Hilfsmittel wie neue Noise- Cancelling-Kopfhörer (150 Euro), Getränkebecher (30 Euro), Klimaanlage (500 Euro) und einen Rollstuhl mit Liegefunktion (400 Euro)
</li>
<li>Ein weiterer riesengroßer Faktor ist meine abendliche Pflege. Hier entstehen monatliche Aufwandsentschädigungen im sehr hohen dreistelligem Bereich.

<div>Ich möchte nochmal gerne sagen, dass ich kein Einzelfall bin. Die extrem schlechte medizinische Versorgung für Schwerstbetroffene, die massiven Symptome und die fehlende Versorgung sind ein strukturelles Problem. Viele Betroffene können sich notwendige Behandlungen, Diagnostik und Hilfsmittel nicht leisten (wenn man überhaupt Zugang dazu hat). Diese finanzielle Hürde führt dazu, dass sich der Gesundheitszustand weiter verschlechtert. Geld entscheidet darüber, ob man überhaupt Zugang zu einer minimalen medizinischen Unterstützung bekommt – bei ME existiert ein solcher Zugang im öffentlichen Gesundheitssystem oft gar nicht. Wer es sich leisten kann, zahlt privat für Therapien, die wenigstens kleine Verbesserungen bringen. Wer arm ist, kann sich dies nicht leisten - Medizinische Versorgung wir zum Privileg derer, die es sich leisten können.

<div>Hello, my name is Natascha, I’m 30 years old, and I have very severe ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) — an illness that has taken away nearly all of my life. Now the time has come for me to ask for your help in order to survive this disease.

<div>For over a year, I’ve been lying in a (now almost completely) dark room. I can only whisper, cannot walk or sit up, and suffer from extreme pain and sensory intolerance. That means I almost always wear noise-cancelling headphones. I can’t listen to audiobooks and am currently only able to tolerate one song a day. My body can only handle minimal human presence — even short contact leads to a severe worsening of symptoms. The constant silence and isolation from loved ones are almost unbearable.

<div>I lie here 24/7 with the most severe symptoms, without adequate medical care, and repeatedly experience neurological crashes during which I cannot tolerate any stimuli at all and suffer excruciating pain.

<div>I have been assigned the highest level of care in Germany (Care Level 5). I can’t take care of myself, wash, brush my teeth, or go to the toilet on my own. I rely on the help of personal care assistants. The social welfare office covers 8.5 hours per day (from 8:00 am to 4:20 pm). That’s not enough to meet my basic needs. In the evening, I have two more hours of care that we have to organize and pay. Outside those hours, I am completely alone without anyone who can help me.

<div>This is the reality for the most severely affected. The quality of life of those with very severe ME is among the lowest of any disease in the world. It’s comparable to that of late-stage cancer or AIDS patients in the final weeks of life. Even the slightest exertion can cause a crash that sends me back into the darkest phase of my illness — a time when I couldn’t eat on my own, had to consume liquid food, couldn’t use the bedpan by myself, couldn’t laugh, and mostly communicated by tapping. I live in constant fear of returning to that state.

<div>I miss life so deeply — seeing the sun, speaking out loud, listening to music, being with friends. I miss everything about being alive. I hold on every day with the hope that I might someday live again, without pain, and be with the people I care about.

<div>The health insurance system doesn’t cover medications, specialized lab work, or treatments for ME. Many doctors have little to no knowledge of this illness. There is no cure and not a single approved medication — the result of decades of neglected research: a 40-year gap. Severely ill patients often receive inadequate or no medical care at all.

<div>I’ve been able to stabilize a bit through off-label medications — and thankfully, I can now use my phone again, which is how I managed, under extreme effort, to create this GoFundMe. That gives me hope and the strength to keep going.

<div>To avoid ever having to consider choosing death, I want to keep trying treatments and medications. Since there is no officially approved therapy for (very severe) ME, I have to rely on individualized experimental treatments — and those are very expensive.

<div>My savings are running out, and I can’t afford the upcoming costs. I urgently need support to cover the monthly cost of the medications that have helped me so far and to try new treatments that may bring further improvement. I receive social welfare (“Hilfe zum Lebensunterhalt” under SGB XII), but that doesn’t even begin to cover the cost of my medications — not to mention food or other essential needs.

<div>Because my illness is long-term, these costs will continue for many months. That’s why I’m fundraising for long-term support:

<li>All the medications that have helped me so far must be paid for out of pocket. These cost several hundred euros per month (over €700 in May alone), far exceeding my available income.

<li>I want to try new treatments and medications like Rapamycin, another SGB, or Daratumumab (thousands of Euro)

<li>I now need specialized diagnostic testing to better understand the mechanisms of ME and identify key issues. I’ve avoided this so far due to the cost, but I desperately want more clarity so treatments can be better targeted (this alone will cost several hundred euros).

<li>I need care from ME-specialist private doctors who can monitor me more closely. Each appointment costs between €150 and €300 — not including lab work or treatments.
</li>
<li>I urgently need essential aids like new noise-cancelling headphones (€150), a special drinking cup (€30), air conditioning (€500), and a reclining wheelchair (€400).

<li>Another huge expense is my evening care — the cost of which runs into the high hundreds of euros each month.

The extremely poor medical care for the most severely affected, the devastating symptoms, and lack of access to treatment are systemic issues. Many patients cannot afford the treatments, diagnostics, and aids they desperately need — assuming they even have access to them at all. This financial barrier often leads to further deterioration. Money determines whether someone can access even the most basic medical support. With ME, such access often does not exist in the public healthcare system. Those who can afford it pay out of pocket for therapies that may bring small improvements. Those without financial means go without — medical care becomes a privilege only the financially stable can access.
