Hiking for Happiness

We are going to walk 400 km from the Toronto CN Tower to the Ottawa Parliament buildings in 10 days to raise awareness and money for mental health.

It all started one day when I was looking for directions to this restaurant that I was eager to eat at. Google informed me that it would take 1.5 hours to drive there. I noticed that there was a tab for walking directions (which seemed impossible), so naturally, I clicked on it. It would take 26 hours to walk there, impossible right? Nah, nothing is impossible.

I started thinking about how many more things you'd appreciate if you were walking rather than driving. The scenery, the challenge, and the exercise all seemed so rewarding. Exercise has had such an important impact in my life in relation to mental health so the idea started blossoming into a plan rather quickly. We kept thinking bigger and bigger until we decided to make a whole vacation out of it.

400 km seemed to be the magic number we were circling around. We had initially wanted to use the Bruce Trail, until Jeff decided to type in walking directions from the CN Tower to the Parliament buildings. In a 10 day trip it works out to be apprx. 40 km/day or about 8-10 hours/day.

Now as fun as this would be without adding any extras, we decided this would be so much more rewarding if we did it for a cause. Mental illness has had a big impact in our lives and we are very passionate about helping to reduce stigma around this very sensitive and life changing subject.
