On Dec 19, 2017 we lost a loving mother of two, beautiful daughter, devoted wife, fearless sister and loyal friend, to cancer. Hiep Thi Le was known for her acclaimed role in Oliver Stone's 1993 film “Heaven and Earth.”
Hiep came from a poor fishing village in central Vietnam, arrived in the U.S. as a boat person, but she made herself into a big screen star in Hollywood and later expanded into the restaurant business. For those of you who knew her, she was a fearless fighter who fought her hardest for the last few years. But her fragile and petite body could no longer take the numerous chemo treatments. Therefore she asked her family, friends and her medical team to let her go in peace. She asked everyone to be happy for her and we agreed and accepted her wishes.
Until the very end, Hiep was filled with a joyful spirit, a great sense of humor and a bottomless well of love for her family and friends. Thank you all in advance and please keep your prayers for Hiep and her family.
Who am I?
I am Le Ly Hayslip, the Vietnamese woman, who immigrated to the US in 1970, that Hiep portrayed in my life story in Oliver Stones's 1993 movie Heaven and Earth. Hiep and I became great friends over the years and now doing my part to help Hiep and her family through this difficult time by starting this GoFundMe campaign.
Who will be the beneficiaries?
Hiep Le's husband Jinn Ong, of almost 20 years, will be the sole beneficiary manager of the GoFundMe funds. Jinn will be added to this campaign so that he may withdraw the funds for proper utilization.
How will the funds we utilized?
The last few years, all their money and savings have been have been used to fight this awful disease. Now we need your help to support Hiep’s family with funds for any additional medical expenses related to Hiep's battle with cancer, her funeral and memorial expenses so they can peacefully send her to heaven. Per Hiep's final wishes, Jinn will donate any funds remaining to be to children fighting cancer hospitalized in her hometown Danang, Vietnam.
