Hickcox Family Fundraiser

Mary Hickcox and her family of 5 have found themselves homeless after a fire destroyed their home in the Kala Point community outside Port Townsend on Friday September 15th.

As the family was leaving home for dinner they discovered a fire in the shed behind their home  and called 9-1-1. When firefighters arrived, the fire had spread to the 4,100-square-foot house, located on a heavily wooded lot, and was rapidly growing in size.

Crews entered through the front to apply water to save the house but were driven back after the house flashed over, blowing out several windows and making it too dangerous to stay inside. Firefighters eventually knocked down the fire, but not before the house was uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross was contacted to provide temporary shelter and basic necessities.

They have renters’ insurance and the house was insured by the homeowner, but as Mary says "Looks like our insurance will not cover hardly anything. Even if we get the whole pay out it will barely cover our beds let alone anything else!!"

Please help this hard working family replace their belongings, take care of their immediate personal needs, and get back into a home quickly.
