Car stolen. Fulltime mom/student.

Hi everyone! A few friends suggested I start a page to see if people would be willing to help me purchase a "new" old vehicle after my car was stolen on July 20th, 2015. It was eventually located but the damage that the thiefs made was going to cost more than the car was worth and so the insurance totaled it.
I had my car for 14 years. It was a 1999 Honda Civic EX and purchased it in September of 2001 after I graduated high school. It was a very loyal car and I was very grateful that I had it paid off by the time I had my daughter in 2004. It was my dream car and I loved it until the very end. I would still be driving it if it was returned to us in good shape or if the insurance company was willing to fix the damage but that is not how the story ended, unfortunately.
The reason I ask for help is because of my current life situation. I am a fulltime single mother of a 10 year-old daughter named Cecilia (Cecy for short) and I am also a fulltime student currently finishing up my BSED in Health Education at the University of New Mexico with one more year to go. Being a fulltime single parent as well staying on top of my school work to get the best grades possible is a difficult dance. Having transportation is what made this life journey a little easier but now have no choice but to take public transporation. It's not that I mind taking the city bus but, if you have children, you know how limited you are without a vehicle in this kind of city.
I try my best as a mother and student and I am currently employed as a work-study at the College of Arts and Sciences Advisement Center but suffering this kind of loss in my last college year (for now, I hope to pursue a master's sometime in the near future) has been very difficult.
I do not like asking for help and I work very hard to be independent so that I can stop being a statistic. That being said, my finances are currently limited and that is why I decided to ask for help. I pride myself of providing my daughter with a stable life but my wise neighbor-lady reminded me that sometimes we just need to ask for assitance.
Since I have about a year left in school, I am just looking for a reliable vehicle that will allow me to get to school, pick up my daughter in a timely manner, get us to our doctor appointments, and allow us to visit my parents on Sunday nights for dinner. If I can find that kind of vehicle for under $6000, it would be all we need. I currently do not have the ability to finance a vehicle or make large monthly payments and that is why I am just looking for something simple, reliable, and as cheap as possible.
If you have the means to help us out, we would greatly appreciate it. Anything would help us to get over this unfortunate and unforeseen obstacle in our lives. We would be truly and forever grateful.
