Help Susan Beat Cancer!

Our treasured and respected teacher and friend, Susan Dwoskin, has been diagnosed with metastatic esophageal cancer. The diagnosis came as quite a surprise, and is likely due to the radiation treatment she received for breast cancer in 2002.  Now, she is in the midst of chemo, surgery, hospitalizations, adjuvant therapies, feeding tube nutritional support, and is ready to fight this with everything she has. This disease recently required surgical  placement of a feeding tube and portocath. 

We know Susan loves to teach.  Her students often demonstrate remarkable insight into the areas of social justice and a practical knowledge of their individually guaranteed rights as citizens.  Susan cannot wait to get back to inspiring and encouraging young minds to think out of the box.  However, she'll need the support of her loving family and community of friends to get there. 

Over the last few weeks, the physical, emotional and financial impacts have been overwhelming. So has the influx of kindness and caring.  Many kind folks have asked how they can help. (Ok - Susan's answer has been to see her dancing with her grandkids -- not yet born-- strong, healthy and happy, 18 years from now.)   If you're looking for a way to support Susan in this challenging time, contributing here is a simple way to support the Dwoskin Team.  Every little bit helps!

Initial treatment is expected to begin with 6 months (or 12+ cycles). We will continue re-evaluating our options as we go. (She didn't get randomized into the immunotherapy arm of clinical trail, as hoped.) Our ideal goal is to raise $36,000. With your help, we hope to reach our fundraising goal by December 31st.
