Help Cam and Heidi beat cancer!

Sometimes, things happen in life that you really didn't expect. Things that you never imagined...

When we started this GoFundMe campaign, I had already been sick for the better part of a year before they finally diagnosed colo-rectal cancer. Then I had to go through radiation, major surgery, chemotherapy, and the side effects of the chemotherapy (peripheral neuropathy and such). Then we found more cancer in my lymph nodes and I had additional surgery to remove that.

All of that meant that I haven’t been able to work much for almost three years, we’ve used up all of my RRSPs, and it’s been hard to pay for basics and bills. As a single mom with three kids, it’s been a lot to handle! But with the support of friends, family, and our communities, we've been making it through! This GoFundMe campaign has been immensely helpful over the past year - everyone's help has meant that I didn't have to stress nearly as much, worrying about how to get from day to day.

Step by step, by asking for help, and through the incredible generosity of both friends and strangers, we made it through. Whether is was $5 or $1000, ever donation helped us buy food or car insurance, a tank of gas or new shoes when the old ones wore out. Everything helped!

In January, 2020, things were starting to look up. My eldest and I had a conversation one Saturday afternoon, saying we both felt like we were actually getting our heads above water and thought maybe we could start planning again. Start living a more normal life, not totally centered around doctor appointments and chemotherapy schedules. Get back to working. Go to school. All the usual things we had always imagined we would be doing at this point in life...

Days later, my youngest kiddo was diagnosed with mixed phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL). His is a rare type of leukemia that is also harder to treat. So far, he's had three courses of chemotherapy over about five months. And then the decision was made to give him a bone marrow transplant. Since the end of June, we've been isolation in BC Children's Hospital. We're still here and trying to figure out why some side effects are lingering, as they have to treat this before we can go home! It's been almost 75 days in hospital, this time.  We're blessed with an amazing team at BC Children's Hospital, so I have no doubt we'll figure this out soon!

We appreciate any ways that you can help us, during this difficult time! I've updated this campaign to continue on, but now supporting us both.

Everything helps us get through this cancer battle!
