Calamity Jane needs your help!!!

Calamity Jane really does not belong to me. She belongs to all the people that rescued her in Southern California. I was just the person that added the love and was lucky enough to have her come into my life. Calamity Jane was shot and wounded 58 times with a BB gun in 2012. She was at the Castaic Animal Shelter in California. They were going to put her down because they had exhausted their funds of 1,000.00 to take care of her.

A rescue group sent out a mass email could somebody please help! I somehow got on that email list and I have a draft mare that I was looking for a companion horse for her. I said I would love to help and take her but I don't have a trailer. A volunteer woman who had a trailer contacted me. She picked me up in her pick up and drove the hour and a half to the shelter. We had never met before that day. She packed a lunch and brought it for me in the truck.

We got Calamity in the trailer. She was scared as could be you couldn't even come close to her at the time. She needed surgery to remove the rest of the BB's that the shelter was not able to get out. When she was shot she ran into a fence and messed up her face and her pastern.

My vet at the time in California was Dr. Larry Kelly. He donated all of his time and medical procedures to help me get her back on her feet. At least 5,000.00 worth of medical care he donated to Calamity and myself. CBS news ran a story on it and people came forward to help. The LA Sheriffs department was very generous with helping as well. I was overwhelmed with the kindness of people from everywhere.

The people where I was boarding let Calamity stay for free. She truly was loved by all. I had a job change and was transferred to Phoenix Arizona.
3 months after my move my job fell through. I am fortunate I have been free lancing but it's just enough to get by.

The Arizona heat took a toll on Calamity this summer. She had over 1500.00 in medical bills. The mud and the rain from the monsoon opened up the old injury on her pastern. She is in dire need of an operation. An operation that includes after care and could go as high as 6,000.00. I made an oath to be Calamity's voice and to never let her be hurt again. I know it sounds crazy but I promised this horse I would always stand by her and make sure she was ok. I really promised and felt she was a gift to me and I need to respect that we were to connect and I was the one responsible to help her thrive.

My vet here doesn't have the same connection as Dr. Kelly everyone is different and after all it is a business and I understand he has to be paid. He will not do the operation unless I have the money. I don't have enough even to get a second opinion right now and look for a Dr. that would take payments. Some bad JU JU here in AZ. Vets don't seem to trust people.

I am asking for your help I need to get the 6,000.00 for medical expenses to get this horse better. She is in pain and she bit a hole in her pastern where she is injured. Any amount will help to get to this goal. I have faith I can do it because I feel I am her voice and she needs me and hopefully you are listening and will help.
