Caleb & Megan Hurricane Harvey Aid

Donation protected
My name is Matthew Thrush. I live in Houston, TX where as many of you might have heard recently on the news, we were affected by severe flooding as a result of Hurricane Harvey. It's one of the worst storms to hit the United States.

I'm raising funds for my brother and his fiancee to help them cover the costs of repairing the flood damage to their home.

He's a Navy Veteran who continues to serve our country with his Cyber Security skills with Chevron (he worked for NASA before this). His fiancee also works for NASA.

Hurricane Harvey has displaced thousands, with millions of dollars in damages. Many families lost their homes or suffered severe flood damage; some lost their lives. It's a disaster and tragedy that may have knocked us down, but it won't overcome us. We are stronger as a united people to heal from this wound.

Preliminary statistics estimate that more than 50 inches of rain fell within a few day period, and some reports say it could have gotten as high as 70 inches! That's A LOT of water!

Families are hurting and in desperate need of assistance to help recover from the storm and try to get their lives in order. The amazing thing is seeing how much support there has been coming from the local community and from abroad. The human spirit is strong and people are helping those in need by offering their services and time for demolition, clean up, supplying food, water, blankets, toiletries, and other supplies, as well as rescuing those trapped by the floods. These efforts will continue for months to come I'm sure.

My brother and his fiancée were one of the thousands of victims of the hurricane and flooding.

Over a foot of water came into their home.  They were up all night trying to salvage anything they could by bringing it upstairs. They shut the downstairs power off to prevent fire or elecution. They had hurricane insurance but the insurance company said they will not help my brother and future sister-in-law because they didn't have flood insurance, despite the fact that water came down the chimney and up through the toilets.  While I understand FEMA, insurance companies, and other emergency corporations are overloaded right now with the requests, it's leaving many families, like my brother and fiancée, on their own.

What's amazing is that several of their friends and coworkers came out to their house to help them with the demolition and bring food and water without them knowing. This is a true blessing, but there's still more to be done.  They're estimating about $25,000 of damages, if not more, from the hurricane. I know they aren't asking for assistance, but it would be a wonderful act of kindness if we could raise donations for them to help cover the costs  from the hurricane. Donations will go to the repair of their home, including but not limited to, their downstairs flooring, walls, drywall, paint, damaged appliances & furniture, flooded car, and garage.

All funds will go to repairing the damage from the flood.  I'll be giving them a check with the amount that we raise for their costs.

Anything raised above their need will be donated to the Disaster Relief program at my local church, Woodlands Church. They have already deployed volunteers for their recovery plan and will need more aid and volunteers in the days to come.

Will you join me by donating whatever you can to help my brother and his fiancée to repair their home? Just $1 by several people can make the biggest difference. Every amount counts. Thank you in advance for your kindess and support. I know they will be blessed tremendously by your gesture.

Some of you want to help but may not be able to demo a home, clean up, give food or water and supplies, or volunteer at one of the many shelters, but you could give a dollar. We all have different gifts and abilities and can help out in our own way. Let's make a difference together.

Thank you and I pray that you all remain safe and that God blesses you and your families.

Love,
Matthew
