Hetty’s Needs a Forever Home – Please Sponsor a Brick?

Tragically, after 12 years of making our premises, Marlborough House a friendly, caring home from home for Hetty’s clients and the powerful, life changing work we deliver, Hetty’s are shocked to be informed our precious building is heartbreakingly being sold. Thus rocking Hetty’s strong roots, foundations and stability, leaving Hetty’s vulnerable, insecure and homeless in the near future!

Hetty’s has been providing support to families affected by a loved one’s substance misuse for 25 years. The service has grown from a single support group in 1996, to the development of a vast array of vital services, supporting and protecting over 250 families and their loved ones every month. Hetty’s empowers individuals to take control back of their lives, including, physical, psychological, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

We are very aware of how in a moment a change can impact all our lives. The sale of our building and the very foundations the service has been built on has had a devastating blow to us all, leaving staff/volunteers feeling lost and uncertain for the future.

Hetty’s want to recognise this as an opportunity for a positive fresh start. Hetty’s are dedicated to making a stand for families affected by substance misuse, placing a stamp on Nottinghamshire creating a way for Hetty’s to always be a part of your community. We need a forever home, a home that nobody can rock, threaten or remove. A home that will have a bright future, with developmental growth for families, children, volunteers and the wider community for many years to come.

Exciting news is that Hetty`s have found and fallen in love with a building that we would love to call our forever home. Hetty’s has a clear vision for the future. Demand for Hetty’s services continues to rise so ownership (rather than rental) of a premise will not only give Hetty’s the freedom to build on our existing services, but the opportunity to expand our charitable trading activities and volunteer opportunities, to raise self-sustained funds, ensuring security and longevity for essential family support in the future.

Hetty`s therefore, desperately need your help, support and love in being able to raise funds for a forever home to secure our work and future for Nottinghamshire families by making a pledge to sponsor a brick.
Whilst we are aware that not everyone can make a monetary donation, there are numerous other ways that you can have an impact. Creating, your own fundraisers:- cake and coffee mornings, tombola’s, sponsored events such as fun run, skydive, or merely placing a donation box within businesses in your local community. Alternatively, get involved by becoming a Hetty’s fundraising volunteer.

National Context:
Adfam have recently undertaken research into the numbers of people negatively affected by someone else’s drinking, drug taking or gambling. They have found that 5.5 million people in the UK are currently affected by this. That is 1 in 10 of us or 11% of the population. The research also showed that one third of people surveyed had been negatively affected for over 10 years, another third for between 4 and 10 years and a quarter for 1-3 years. Our statistics echo the Adfam research. Many families access Hetty’s services and support between 4 and 10 years

Support for those affected by a loved one’s substance misuse is a postcode lottery across the country. Hetty’s know that many family services in neighbouring counties due to lack of support and funding have sadly disappeared. Nottinghamshire is extremely fortunate to have Hetty’s to provide that vital support to families. Funding for treatment services nationwide has been cut by almost 30% but there is no money for families, so we have to generate this ourselves. Research published recently into the effects of the Covid19 pandemic on charities , has shown a quarter of charities lost at least 40% of their income last year.
