Hello Everyone! Thank you for visiting Hudson's page! The majority of you know Hudson's story, but for those of you who are unaware, here is a very BRIEF history on his current situation. Hudson was born at 28weeks 5 days gestation. He had to spend a few months in the NICU, learning how to survive, but he was perfect in every way (despite the odds against him!)
At 18 Months old, Hudson was diagnosed with Spastic Cerebral Palsy, which means his muscles are always tight. Because of this, the ability for him to develop leg muscles is almost non existent, except when they are able to give him Botox injections that release the spacticity and allows him the opportunity to develop those muscles. He has been receiving those injections for almost 2 years. Over the last several rounds they have noticed that while initially they do an incredible job, they are starting to last shorter and shorter amounts of time, and now are becoming ineffective.
After much research, advice from Doctors, and prayers, the best option remaining for Hudson is to have a surgery called a dorsal rhizotomy (see link below). If successful, It will offer Hudson the ability to walk unassisted and to live his life with the independence that the majority of little boys are blessed to have from the start. It is extremely intensive, and obviously costly, but the benefits greatly outweigh the risks, and God has opened up the doors to allow this surgery to be possible on July 21st, 2015.
As you can imagine, the costs are enormous. Not only will this family need to pay for exorbitant medical expenses, but they will also be paying for airline tickets (this procedure is done in St. Louis, MO at the Children's Hospital and they live in St. Augustine, FL), relocations costs, (Gretchen will have to relocate with Hudson to Tampa, FL for rehab, surgeries, and appointments for anywhere from 4 months-1year) and also grocery/restaurant expenses as they will have to eat out often. Gretchen will also be unable to work during this time which will cause an enormous decline on the normal family budget.
This is where I/We come in. Gretchen is a very dear friend of mine. She and her husband, police officer Matt Mitchell, are devoted members of our church, Turning Point at Calvary of St. Augustine, FL. They have sacrificed time, money, energy and extras to give to those in need around them (including my family!) and now it's time we give back! Please help me in supporting this family in your prayers, and if possible, financially! EVERY bit helps our sweet and strong Hudson!
Below you will find a link to Gretchen's blog where you can keep up with the latest info. Hudson is a courageous and strong little boy, and I know you'll be encouraged by keeping up with his story. Not to mention, if you love Hattie, you'll enjoy keeping up with her future husband (Gretchen and I have the arranged marriage all set up )
