Hernandez - Hurricane Relief Fund

Donation protected
As must of you already know the island of Puerto Rico was devastated. Nobody in the island was spared and everyone needs help. Those of us that have family and loved ones in the island are desperately trying to get in touch with them, help them in any way we can, and make sure they can stay healthy and in good spirit. Unfortunately basic services are not available yet and thus work is not possible which means no money to buy simple things as food, water, gasoline, etc.

If you are interested in helping at a national level in Puerto Rico, please donate to large charities like The American Red Cross, World Vision, UNICEF and many other great international organizations that are doing a great work in the island. If however, you are interested in helping our family who lost every personal item they ever owned in the hurricane, you can do it here. My wife’s family is from a town called Añasco.

Information and pictures of what is happening in Añasco, Puerto Rico

José A. Hernández (Tony) and Gladys Miranda lost everything from their home. Not even their clothes were saved. They are sleeping with friends who also suffered losses, but at a lesser extent. They have no access to direct communication. We are communicating via friends who can relay messages to them. But more importantly, they have no access to money to buy every-day necessities (i.e. water, food, soap, toothbrushes, clothing, personal hygiene items, etc.). My wife is preparing to depart to the island as soon as the situation stabilizes a bit more. At this point, it makes little sense to go there now when there are limited flights, no way to drive from the only open airport on the island (San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín – SJU) to her home town of Añasco), there is no place for her to stay or sleep, etc. She would become more of a burden under these conditions than help.

In the meantime, there are ways to help. We can send money directly to their bank. Once the money arrives we can relay a message to let them know the money is there. They can go to the bank very early in the morning to stand in line for at least 3-4 hours and try to get some of it out to cover the basic necessities for a few days.

If you are interested in helping our family, you can do it here. We are not claiming you will receive a tax-deductible donation or anything else. It is just help to our family. We will do our best to post progress, pictures, etc. here and in Facebook. But, if you believe we are not trying to scam you and you do want to help, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.
