Herminio's accident recovery

Donation protected

A co-worker of mine was in a serious car accident on October 4, 2016.  His name is Herminio Jara and he has been a friend of mine for going on 20 years now.  This accident took place about 2 hours from his home. His wife Cristina has been by his side since the accident. He had to be extricated from his vehicle and was unresponsive at the scene.  By the grace of God and the skill of the first responders they were able to stabilize him and get him on a chopper to the hospital.  He came in with head trauma and lacerations on his head.  He had many fractures on his right side and was rushed to surgery.  They performed initial repairs on fractures in his wrist, arm, leg and ankle.  He has had follow up surgery already on his arm and more work schedule on his ankle which was shattered.  The doctors initial plan was to keep him heavily sedated not only for the pain, but to keep him unconscious due to swelling on his brain.  He had a breathing tube for his first week in the ICU, but that was removed yeaterday and replaced by a tracheostomy.  The doctors have been taking down the sedation levels as they have determined the swelling on his brain was subsiding.  He has started to respond with subtle moves like using his thumb to rub the hand that was holding his.  He is opening his eyes on occasion and his wife believes that she can detect changes in his facial expressions when she talks to him about their children.  He is a loving father of 4, Analis, Ariana, Daniel & Michael.

As you can imagine, the costs for gas, food and lodging are going to start piling up. And medical expenses seem to always be a wildcard that you never really know how that will end.  These expenses will add to what must already be an insurmountable burden on the Jara family.  I am reaching out to ask for any assistance you can provide the Jara family.  Herminio has an unknown timeline to get through his head injuries and a long road ahead of him in recovering from all the surgeries that he has went through in addition to the ones he has in his future.
The Jara's are a strong and humble family.  They have been very gracious and humbled by the outpouring of well wishes that they have received. They understand the journey ahead won't be easy and will be forever grateful for whatever you can spare in this campaign.  In conjunction with my fellow co-workers, we came to the conclusion that this was a good thing to do for the family.  All money collected will go directly to the Jara family.
