Here's The Scoop Ice Cream Shop DC/HU staff

Here's The Scoop Ice Cream Dessert Shop, the first black woman owned ice cream shop in NW, DC, opened June 2019 and was well received by the DC Community! Located across from Howard University,it quickly became an enjoyable meeting place for the HU students and staff, neighbors and the Shaw/HU/DC community as a whole! The owner of Here's The Scoop,  Karin Sellers, opened with the purpose bringing the community together in an friendly space, providing opportunities for local bakers to feature their desserts and for young students to be guided and motivated in a positive/nurturing work environment to inspire the pursuit of entrepreneurship! Many HU and DCPS students were employed throughout the year, which the kids enjoyed! The store has been featured on NBC4, WUSA9, WJLA7, Pay It Forward WHUR, along with articles written in HuffingtonPost, Washingtonian, CityPaper and The Afro! Can't forget a positve Instagram  shoutout from DL Hughley! People have visited from as far as Alaska!    The store hasn't been open for a year yet and was headed for an exciting Ice Cream Season when Covid-19  hit which has had a drasticly negative impact on the small business. With HU and DC closures, it isn't much business in order to remain open. The saddest part is losing 1/2 our staff, which were HU students, who had to  return to their hometowns. Most were looking forward to working there while still in school. The local DCPS students want to work, but there isn't  enough business in order to pay them caused by very limited operating hours and the fear of the virus. During this difficult time, Here's The Scoop would like to raise money for the student staff members. The HU students need help with Student Loans/college expenses and the DCPS students which were mostly seniors, need help with graduation cost and College expenses in 2020! If you ever visited Here's The Scoop DC, you had a chance to meet the wonderful young staff that made you feel at home with every encounter! The owner, Karin Sellers hope's to be able to bring back some of the same youth when this is over but please in the meantime help them thru your Donations until she can reopen fully. Also, she will continue to give local bakers the opportunity to feature again real soon! She loves her Community and cant wait to bring them together again! Until then, please donate during this difficult time of uncertainty for these student employees. Thank you!#SmallBusinessRelief
