NJ Family Loses Mother, Father, & Brother in Flood

***ESCRITO EN ESPAÑOL MAS ABAJO***
We are still working towards this goal - please continue to share this with those interested in helping to cover this devasting loss. Your gift will help with bearing the sudden loss of 3 family members, as well as lessen the financial impact to younger Jose’s children.

There are no words to express the absolute sorrow that is being felt by those affected by the loss of Jose C. Torres (75), his wife Rosa Espinal (72), and their son Jose B. Torres (38.)

The remnants of Hurricane Ida created catastrophic flooding causing irreparable damage and tragic loss. Torrential flooding swept through their apartment in Elizabeth, New Jersey trapping and causing their death as they were submerged in rising flood waters, while painfully saying their goodbyes on the phone with their daughters.

Jose C. Torres was a hardworking Afro-Latino who immigrated from the Dominican Republic in 1982. His loving wife, Rosa Espinal came from the Dominican Republic in 1983. Together, they created a beautiful family. They leave behind their two daughters, Margarita Torres, Licensed Clinical Social worker at the Elizabeth Public School District and Yahari Torres, Special Education Teacher for the Township of Union Public Schools District. They also leave behind eight beautiful grandchildren. Their son, Jose B. Torres, who was visiting when the storm rushed in, leaves behind a 14-year-old son and his adopted daughter Adamary.

Nothing can ever prepare you for a moment like this, a moment that suddenly stands still in time, your heart racing, your mind is trying to take in what is happening, you’re in shock, frozen but your heart speaks out to convey love, compassion, and desperation for survival.

As close friends and colleagues, who have become family, we are asking for your support as the family lays their loved ones to rest. While there is little that we can do to help minimize the family’s devastation, we would love to alleviate the financial burden imposed by the sudden death of three immediate family members.
