Herbert Schmidtke

Herbert Schmidtke, 85, of Milford, beloved husband of Maria Schmidtke, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023 at his home. Born on August 17, 1937 in Romanow Ukraine, he was the son of the late Mawritz Kutasewitz and Ida Schmidtke.

Herbert grew up in displacement camps in Nazi Germany. Before coming to America in 1953. Herberts education was the education of life, learning 7 languages.
His native Language Russian, and the more frequently used was German, Polish, English, Turkish.

Herbert was an engineer, with some of the most intricate welding Jobs, among them oil rigs and jet engines.

Herbert was an avid athlete and played AAA soccer for Germany, which also led him to a short stint as a kicker for the 65’ NEFL Milford Rockets with the record of 8-5. Boxing and Bowling were also in the mix of his life. Later on he became a coach in soccer, leading many teams at Calf Pen Meadow and Laurelton Hall to champion seasons. Later on he also helped coach woman’s basketball granting him the title “coach”

Herbert leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Maria Schmidtke. Their children David Herbert Schmidtke (56) and his wife Jennifer, Alex Georg Schmidtke (51) and his wife Faye. and Peter Josef Schmidtke (46) and his wife Alayna. Herbert has 4 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Sammy, Kayla and Eden

Herberts also leaves behind his brother Paul Schmidtke.

Herbert gave his life to Christ and has returned home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One memory Herbert would love to leave behind to his loved ones, That Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven and a relationship with God is not a religious experience, but a way of life.

Services will be private. The family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460.
