The Herald Covid Memorial Campaign

Donation protected
The coronavirus pandemic has taken parents, grandparents, husbands, wives and partners before their time. And for many the heartache was made all the worse for not being able to hold their hand or be at their bedsides.

Covid-19 has torn people apart and cruelly split up families. This is why The Herald has launched its Covid Memorial Campaign, to create a place where people can simply sit and think of their relatives.

Our aim is to create a space for friends and families to go to, whether it's to be alone with their thoughts or together as they remember loved ones.

I remember: Scotland's Covid Memorial is the nation's memorial. We need to raise more than £230,000 to create the memorial which will be a series of wooden supports throughout the park with figures created from physical poses with wildflowers and plants. There will be areas where people will be able to reflect including a focal point - the Riverside Grove. Work has already begun to install the first of these supports will form a memorial walk throughout the park.

Thanks to the generosity of Glasgow City Council, the memorial will be built in Pollok Country Park. And working with charity greenspace Scotland we commissioned artist Alec Finlay to create the memorial.
Work is underway and the first support was installed on March 23, a national day of reflection. We hope the first phase of the memorial will officially open in late Spring 2022.

We have launched this public fund to help ensure all costs are covered, and to give everybody in Scotland and beyond the opportunity to contribute in some way.

Please give generously, and help build a fitting and lasting memorial to those who have lost their lives in Scotland during the coronavirus pandemic.
