Help Baby Zvikomborero

Donation protected
Baby Zvikomborero is 21 months old, and she suffers from a condition known as Hydrocephalus. It is a condition where fluid build-up in the brain causing the head to grow bigger uncontrollably. The excess fluid puts pressure on the brain, which can severely damage it. She is being looked after by her single mother Loreen and her grandmother who live in Chaka (Mvuma) rural area of Zimbabwe. The grandmother also happens to be of age and poor health that she suffers from hypertension, diabetes, peptic ulcers and arthritis. Zviko endured three shunt operations of which the first two done at Harare Hospital did not go well. Afterwards, her muscles in the lower limps appeared stiff, poor feeding and constant vomiting, diarrhoea and always drowsy. As a result, she had to travel with her mum to Karanda Hospital in Mt Darwin for the third operation, where she spent the whole month receiving treatment for the infection detected in the water that was in the brain before the operation. After the operation she went into comma for three days. She was discharged from the hospital despite her worsened condition. That was merely because the mother could no longer afford to pay for the hospital bills, medication and injections for baby Zviko. While the mother was in the hospital she had to buy her own food which proved to be problematic for her because of limited funds. Routinely, she is supposed to be taken to Karanda hospital for further examinations and required treatment including physiotherapy which was quoted at £3000. Currently Zviko’s condition is being monitored by Doctor Steven based at Karanda hospital who happened to be the one who carried out the third operation on her. Doctor Steven firmly recommended that her condition should be monitored closely at Karanda hospital which is very far away and expensive from where Zviko and her mum live. So far she has missed a lot of hospital appointments because the mother could not afford the transport fares. The doctor also recommended that Zviko must have a special need buggy and a cot bed where she can sleep on her own to avoid accidents. At the moment her mum can only carry her on her back against Doctor Steven’s advice. He insisted that Zviko should be carried on the buggy only to avoid the blockage of the shunt from smoothly draining the water from the head.

Please, we are appealing for financial help from the well-wishers for Zvikomborero's very costly physiotherapy, on-going medical treatments, buggy, food and clothes as she is severely malnourished. Please just donate whatever you have for baby Zviko because every little helps. Your generous support will make it possible for Zviko to have another chance of good health and life. Thank you all for your love and kindness .
