The Rimmers' fight against cancer

Donation protected
I want to introduce you to my dear friends, the Rimmers - Chad, Natalie, Paul Michael (13), and Luke (10). Natalie is battling her second round of cancer. I’d like to humbly ask for your help and support.
Chad and Natalie have dedicated their adult lives to the call of ministry, peacemaking, and helping others by way of serving in Senegal through the Global Mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They have also served at the International Church of Copenhagen in Denmark, as well as Union Lutheran Church in York, PA. And if you’ve ever had a chance to know Chad and Natalie for even a moment – you know they serve anyone and everyone every day. They serve their friends and strangers around them constantly with love. When I tell someone new about Chad and Natalie, I simply say “They’re the most Christ-like people I know.”
In June 2013, the Rimmers moved to Dakar, Senegal, after years of preparation. Natalie taught at the International School of Dakar and Chad served as a pastor and teacher in the Lutheran Church of Senegal. After several months of pain, in February 2014, doctors found that Natalie had a malignant tumor in her knee. The cancer was Ewing’s Sarcoma, typically a pediatric cancer, and rare in adults.

The family quickly returned to the US for treatment. This sudden extraction from their home and friends in Senegal was very difficult. For the next 16 months Natalie battled, undergoing intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and having part of her lower leg reconstructed to remove the tumor. In the summer of 2015, though, the Rimmers returned to Senegal to continue their mission. The family had a fantastic year and thrived into 2016.
In early June, things changed. On a planned summer vacation back to the US, to see family, friends, and share their life and mission with congregations, Natalie’s scans showed that cancer had returned, this time to her lungs and heart. Their return to Senegal after treatment is in jeopardy. Treatments will begin almost immediately. Another painful battle awaits.

This new battle brings many emotional, physical, and also logistical challenges. They must move their household items to another continent, a likely $10K+ cost. They are thankful for insurance, but have significant 5-digit deductibles to be met, which will be incurred within a week or two of starting treatment. They have borrowed a car right now, but need a more permanent solution. They brought only the clothes for themselves and their children they needed for vacation. While housing was provided in Senegal, they don’t have a permanent housing situation settled here, and housing in the more-expensive US makes this more difficult. My hope is this page will help with these medical, transportation, and housing needs during this time. Just this list I provide here could be a $70-90K burden.

Money cannot make Natalie’s cancer go away, but it can make them more at ease while they fight their battle.

If you do not know Chad and Natalie, please consider giving and sharing this on social media. If you do know Chad and Natalie, you know their heart and how they’ve dedicated themselves to helping others. It’s time for us to help them.

Please feel free to share this with as many people as possible. Thank you for your consideration.

With gratitude…

Corey
