The Sole Family

John Sole, 53 years old, was born and raised in Totowa, NJ. He spent most of his life raising his 5 children, Sal Jess Daniella Alyssa and John, with his wife Anna and working at the local police department until he retired after being involved in a shooting in 2007. Since then, he works in the Totowa schools as the resource officer. He helped coach for the Totowa PAL soccer, floor hockey, and baseball when his kids were young. John also worked at Capri Pizzeria which was owned by his father Sal Sole, whom recently passed. Four years ago he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare-incurable cancer that is estimated to be approximately 6.5 persons out of 100,000. It is a type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells damaging your bones, kidneys, immune system and blood cell count. Plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. Multiple myeloma causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow, where they crowd out healthy blood cells. Excessive plasma cells eventually come together to form a tumor or multiple tumors throughout the body, especially the bone marrow. Since May, John has been fighting harder than ever to beat it. On October 1st he fell and broke his femur days before a new chemo treatment. He has been hospitalized ever since. Johns wife and kids have spent hours everyday at the hospital motivating him to become strong again. He is now back in the comfort of his own home fighting this battle.
