Please help me help Terah!
I am the lucky man who's spent the last 20 years married to Terah and I need to tell you that this beautiful woman, loving wife and proud mother has been suffering in silence for too long. She's one of the strongest and most independent people I've known and as such, reaching out for help is the last thing on her mind. I want her to know how important it is for the rest of the world to be able to see her bright, shining smile again and I don't think I can do it on my own.
Terah has been battling an undiagnosed disease for quite some time now, but these past three years have been especially challenging. Her immune system is under attack, her cognitive function is compromised and it's been otherwise physically debilitating, to say the least. Her appearance has gone through some pretty dramatic changes, with rapid weight losses and gains and rashes over her body. Some days are better than others, but she often can't get herself out of the house, much less function effectively at work.
Terah has been in front of no less than four medical specialists in four different fields, rushed several times to the ER and has sat through countless blood tests, x-rays, MRIs, biopsies and even a spinal tap. She is yet to find a source of her chronic symptoms or any reasonable course of treatment.
Terah hasn't been able to work as much as she'd like during this period, but she did somehow manage to finally complete her 2 year correspondence course from home last spring. Unfortunately, she hasn't had the energy to even begin to pursue work in her new field.
When it feels like we've tried everything, Terah still won't give up on the hope that she will eventually find a solution, even if she has to research it completely on her own, which she has. In fact, a result of her many hours of research is that Terah has discovered one promising treatment in particular that could likely begin to turn her condition around and give her a good start on a road to recovering some basic functions, keeping her faith alive.
Unfortunately, this 2 week long treatment therapy is not available in Canada. As credit card debt mounts, bills are going unpaid and specialist appointments are becoming increasingly more distant and difficult to travel to. I work full-time and take extra jobs on the weekends, but without Terah's financial contribution, it's not enough to make ends meet. The daily financial stress at this point alone is enough to make even the healthiest of us feel sick.
My goal is to raise enough money to take the financial pressure off. My hope is that we'll be able to get Terah the care she needs and deserves. I want to help create a healing space for Terah, one that doesn't require sacrificing rent and grocery money to pay for adequate care.
After speaking with people in our community during the first few days of my BEAR THE WAIT campaign, it's become abundantly clear that there is a desperate need for support for people who suffer in a similar way to Terah. I want to raise enough money to help other people, families who have struggled to pay for travel to appointments, people who have been unable to earn incomes while waiting for treatment.
I believe the healing path begins in a place of peace and love. Help me put Terah's mind at peace so she can focus on achieving a state where she is fully able to receive our love and begin her recovery process.
