A little backstory...
In 2004 my Mom became quadriplegic after a fall in the home. One doctor gave her a year, most 5 years, but being the survivor that she is (having already won the battle against both thyroid & ovarian cancers) she has fought and thrived for going on 12 years now. A wonderful, exhausting, life changing 12 years & we're so grateful for this time with her.
In 2012 Dad lost his job, as many people were during that time. In 2013 Mom was hospitalized due to infection, not uncommon in her condition (catheter/pressure sores/weakened immune system) but this time she wound up being put on a ventilator. So far she hasn't been strong enough/confident enough to be successfully removed from the ventilator & doctors doubt that she ever will. After that Dad just devoted himself 100% to taking care of Mom (and their then 14 year old granddaughter whom they have custody of) and had to stop looking for work.
With the loss of income, loss of insurance, & added equipment/even more intensive round the clock care, Dad's retirement savings have been depleted. Wound care supplies, feeding tube supplies, trach care and ventilator supplies, all of the hospital/ambulance bills, plus the regular groceries, mortgage, utilities, insurance, and other day to day living expenses have become too much to handle on our own. So we must ask for your help. Just enough to be able to take care of Mom, keeping her healthy, happy & at home for as long as she is with us.
Current in home health care expenses: gloves, gauze 4x4s, drain sponges, abd pads, feminine pads, saline, ventilator circuits, wound dressings (varies), pull pads, suction catheters, liquid food & bags, prescriptions, etc.
