Tails of Rescue is in dire need of your help!
Who we are: In 2007 we were known as Mutts Transport Service. We felt compelled to get cats and dogs off the Shasta County Animal Control kill list and into non-kill rescues. Mutts Transport Service comprised of 4 volunteers who dedicated every weekend to the animals on death row. These were unpaid volunteers who were not reimbursed for gas, mileage, food, or accommodations on their trips. But this did not deter us, in fact we were inspired.
We wanted to do more; on April 7, 2015 we officially started Tails of Rescue. A no kill, non-profit 501c3 in the city of Redding, CA. Tails of Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of abused and/or abandoned dogs and cats. Tails of Rescue has an open door policy, meaning we take any dog or cat regardless of age, medical or emotional issue.
Tails of Rescue has grown to 18 (non-paid) volunteers and we are funded by donations (e.g., cash, pet supplies and gently used items for our thrift store).
Who we have helped: In our first 8 months we rehomed 649 pets and in 2016, we rehomed 967. We are on track to rehome 740 dogs and cats in 2017. Currently we house (on average) 51 dogs and 39 cats.
Why we need you: Tails of Rescue currently operates from a rental space in north Redding. Not only have we out grown our space, but there is no outside area for the animals and we are unable to expand.
Tails of Rescue has the amazing opportunity to purchase a 2.38 acre property at 5180 Westside Road Redding CA . The Tails of Rescue Ranch would allow us to increase our animal capacity and ensure the needs of each individual animal is met. More importantly, our mortgage payment would potentially be less than our current rent.
The catch: because Tails of Rescue is a non-profit, we do not qualify for a small business loan, but rather our requirement is a 30% down payment. That is $87,000, which is insurmountable for a non-profit in it’s early stages of development.
Tails of Rescue is doing all we can, but we need YOUR help. We have volunteers willing to donate their time and skillset to ensure the Tails of Rescue Ranch is every dog and cat’s paradise, but we need funding.
Perhaps this week you can make coffee at home, or skip dinner out, or ask for a donation made in your name this holiday season. These animals desperately need you and no donation is too small.
What you should know: The money raised in this campaign will only be used for the purchase of land in order to expand Tails of Rescue. Our adoption policies and fees will not change, nor will our thrift store. We simply want to relocate in order to maximize the number of animals we are able to save.
