We all remember our first bike! The feeling of freedom, the wind and sun in your face, the laughter of those around you as you set off on an adventure together- and these are all possible with the ownership of a bicycle.
Like all things with a disability or special needs label it’s significantly more expensive for disabled children to have the same experience. It is well beyond the means of our family to provide Taige with the bicycle that she deserves- which is why we are turning to our friends, family, community, and anyone who would like to help his awesome kid out.
For those of you who do not know our Taige, she is an amazing 11 year old, who enriches the lives of all who meet her. She primarily has a traumatic brain injury, but also a long list of other medical disabilities (cerebral palsy, epilepsy, cortical blindness etc.). Due to these, Taige is wheelchair bound, it is her wish and ours to be able to take her out on our family bike rides. We want to see that big smile of hers, and hear her chuckling laughter. We want her to be exhausted with the amount of fun in her life.
The bicycle that we are tying to purchase is called a VeloPlus bicycle.
The VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike is designed for transporting people, in their own wheelchair. Taige could be wheeled on to the plateau of the cycle easily without having to be lifted. She would be safe and stable in this impeccably designed bike. If Taige gets this bike she will never need to have another bike purchased as it is able to use any wheelchair that she may have in the future. A whole lifetime of enjoyment awaits her!
