My Story
My name is Steve Hentzen and I am a prostate cancer survivor of 6 years. Early on in my challenging journey with prostate cancer, a local support group became the foundation of my support network and made it possible for me to cope with prostate cancer. At the time I was diagnosed, I was a 46 year-old single parent with a 12 year-old son and I needed all the emotional support I could get. I met some amazing guys in this support group and we became fast friends. We were a bunch of guys who sat around and talked about everything, whether or not it was cancer related, and our support group was our safe haven.
A few years ago, my friends and I co-founded the Prostate Network as a local, grassroots organization for prostate cancer survivors, their partners, and those helping in the fight to raise awareness and spread hope. Over the years, we’ve given support to hundreds of men and their families and helped many others by spreading awareness about early detection and prevention.
A lot of this disease is out of your control, but you can work to stack the deck in your favor — eat right, exercise, and do what you need to do to maintain mental wellness. Another way to stack the deck is to add powerful tools to your cancer toolbox. A few months ago, I connected with the team at Driver , a first-in-kind treatment access platform for cancer patients and is partnered with 30+ of the top cancer centers in the U.S., including the National Cancer Institute.
