Shelby's Emergency Medical Fund

Donation protected
The Hunters are dear friends of mine and Shelby is like a brother. In the early morning hours of September 1st, Shelby was in a devasting car cash while returning home from work. He is a corrections officer at Jackson State Penitentary and commutes daily from the eastside.

Some things you need to know about Shelby. He is a success story. He started life in Alabama and got caught up in the scene. Drugs, jail, struggling through, trying to get by, part-time jobs, living the hard life - but that was then...

And this is now. Now he is a loving father and devoted husband.

He went from one side of the law to the other. Now he still spends his time in jail... but as a corrections officer working with some of the most challenging and hardened prisioners at Jackson State Penitentiary.

He also is a committed volunteer, leading several outreaches in his commuinity. He focuses on working with other men, especially those rattled by crime, gangs, drugs, and racism.

This is a man on a mission of love and courage and wastes no time helping others. A world-changer one person at a time. Wherever there is a need he's there. Always one of the hardest working and humbly serving in whatever capacity needed - from his great leadership and teaching...

... to rolling up his sleeves and getting dirty volunteering in his community...

He does outreaches from Mt. Clemens to Detroit, actually working to make an impact in these struggling communities.

He doesn't just talk about helping. He doesn't just complain about the plight he is witness to - he actually goes out and as just ONE man leading any other willing volunteers - he  goes out and DOES SOMETHING about it.

This is the kind of person the world needs more of. This is the kind of everyday hero we all talk about and wish existed. Well he does - and he needs us now.

He has multiple injuries including a fractured hip socket - as his car spun, hit the median, and flipped after another car clipped his front end and then fled the scene. Generous bystanders came to his aid as he dragged himself out of the fuming car before losing consciousness - but within enough time to have someone call his wife so she wouldn't be terrified hearing the news for the first time from a trooper.

If anyone deserves some help and the recognition he'd never seek out on his own - It's Shelby - along with his loving and devoted wife, who has now been trying to put herself through school for Social Work. Her upcoming semester begins in a couple short weeks. She is a champion among strong, resilient women and has a passion to address equality and unity.

On September 1st all their hardwork went crashing with that car. Shelby underwent reconstructive hip surgury and the realistic prognosis is it will take several months before he can gain full mobility. As a recent graduate and new hire at Jackson, he is still a trainee and his job position - as well as health insurance - are not yet protected despite the tremendous efforts being made to do so...

There is no guarantee that he will be able to return to the job he loves if he is granted an extension...

And there is no time to waste with a family depending on him...

And this is all weighing heavily on him...

He is the main provider in his home. He will need rehabilitative care to walk again that is most likely going superceed his insurance coverage. He lives in a modest home with no accomodations for the medical needs he will need such as bathroom care and shower bars. His wife will need to be on 24hour care for him and the children - preventing her from continuing her education and restricting her from getting an income - unless we do something.

This is a real man, with a real story. I hope I was able to help you get to know him a little and why it's so important that we help him.

Just $1 from each person who cares would make a difference. Even if you can't donate, please just share so those who are in a position to invest into this man can do so. He would never ask for a hand out, and would never never ask on his own. But the facts are - he is in need of a hand up.

All funds are going directly and only to the family and this fund was set up in combination with loved ones and individuals at the church outreach community he so diligently serves. All donations are to assist with any and all their medical, rehabilitave, and family needs.

Please share and thank you. Your love for this one man and his family you may not even know, may not change the world - but it means the world to them and it is their whole world right now. <3
