HELP SEND OUR LOLA HOME

Donación protegida
Gene Gapilango is the most beautiful woman on earth. She is also the definition of #Queen- mainly because she has always been the queen of our tight-knit family. Wife of a missionary, mother of five, grandmother (or in Filipino term- "Lola") to over a dozen, just recently a great-Lola of now two little boys, and friend and inspiration to many. For those of you that know our Lola, you know how easily she becomes Lola to you. Even if knowing her for a short while. Fierce, compassionate, loyal, outspoken, kind, and full of grace and faith. She radiates so much light, wisdom, and beauty. She has dedicated her whole life to ministry and continues to do so.

On December 19th, Lola was admitted to a hospital in the Philippines. She had recently just arrived in the country to visit family and do some ministry work with her husband (who of course we call "Lolo"). Soon after, she fell extremely ill.

With pneumonia, extreme electrolyte imbalances, complications with diabetes, and her kidneys functioning at a shockingly low percentage- she soon reached a condition that would have put her in the ICU if she was being treated here in the United States.

She remains in the hospital and had to spend both Christmas and the New Year there. She continues to be monitored and treated for all her different conditions. Though she is somewhat better as she was, her kidneys are still struggling. She has bruising and edema (swelling) of the arms, hands, legs, and feet. There are some fluids coming out of her hands that can be a source of infection. She is still recovering from pneumonia and the doctors are watching her heart to try and avoid congestive heart failure. Because of the medication given to her to stabilize her pneumonia and ease the discomfort of all the swelling, her electrolyte levels are constantly up and down. All of this leaves her feeling super tired, drained, and in pain. Although she tries to maintain a smile, it is evident how much her health is deterioriting.

A few of our loving family members have been staying by Lola's side- sacrificing their time, energy, strength, and own health. Keeping her company, taking care of her, and updating the rest of us on her progress -especially because the time difference is completely opposite between here and there. It has been a very emotional, draining, and overwhelming holiday season for our family. We are all so close and feel heavy hearted- as we are scattered all through the world. Unable to all be there for Lola, but trying our best to encourage one another, stay hopeful, and most importantly, prayerful.

We are praying for wisdom as to what is the best and smartest thing to do. As a family, we completely believe in God's sovereign plan over this situation. We are asking for His will to be done and trust in the mighty hands of our maker. But, we know that in order to give Lola the best care and chance at fighting for her life, she needs to be back in the United States. Not only does she have good insurance here, but she also can receive the proper treatments and care needed to aid her back to health.

Although the doctors that are currently taking care of her have said that she is still too weak to travel- as they fear her lungs may not be able to tolerate the high altitudes.. once she is cleared, getting her back here is our first priority.

Lola has been in the hospital now for 15 days with no Philippine insurance. This poses a GIANT problem and financial burden because she cannot be discharged until all the bills are PAID IN FULL.  Our family has come together to already cover a big chunk of the medical expenses by sending a couple thousand dollars, but we are still coming up short. - about $3300 is still needed.

We have been trying to find every avenue of how to come up with the means to cover all the funds they are requesting to be able to discharge Lola once she is well enough to travel. God has blessed us so much, but we are still in need of a lot. And as soon as possible. We want to get her the proper care needed before things get worse.

Please consider giving whatever you are able to and help us get Lola back home!!!

More than anything, continue to pray for our family through this emotional time.
