Bosnia Floods - Help Schools in Maglaj

Dear Friends,
Last Wednesday night (May 14th) severe floods hit several areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, caused by a cyclone located in the region. Floods and landslides have caused absolute havoc. With other areas of the country, the entire city of Maglaj was under 3 meters (nearly 10 feet) of water and continues to be in a state of emergency. While water levels have finally come down and first wave of relief efforts are underway to get supplies and clean water into the area, the worst is far from over. Crucial infrastructure has been damaged; people are without power, phone lines, and drinking water; important institutions such as schools have been severely damaged.
On top of the chaos surrounding the city, it is not clear if and when children in Maglaj will be able to go back to school. The school children of Maglaj grew up in a city that had just in recent years started recovering from the damage caused by the wars that ravaged the region in the 1990s. Just as the city was getting back on it’s feet, a natural disaster completely destroyed what was just recently rebuilt.
We have set up this page in hope of raising funds towards getting school buildings in Maglaj cleaned from flood damage and help school children back into class as soon as possible. Our hope is to start with one school, and possibly expand our fundraising efforts to other schools. We were able to get in touch with Ermin Tankovic, who is the Director of the “Mjesovita Srednja Škola Maglaj”. All donated funds will be transferred directly to this first school, and Mr. Tankovic will make sure that these funds go towards getting the school buildings clean, operational, and help each child get a break from the catastrophe surrounding them. If we succeed in helping one school back onto its feet, it will be a huge victory for the city and its school children!

Poplave u Bosni i Hercegovini – Pomozimo maglajskim skolama Dragi prijatelji,
Kao sto ste vec upoznati sa situacijom, u srijedu 14. maja 2014. godine, teske poplave i katastrofalno nevrijeme su pogodile mnoge dijelove Bosne i Hercegovine. Medju mnogim dijelovima zemlje koje su pogodjeni strahovitim nevremenom, grad Maglaj se suocio sa katastrofom nesagledivih razmjera i poslijedica. Maglaj je u potpunosti bio potopljen nadolazecim valom rijeke Bosne, koji je iznosio i do 3 metra visine. Dok se rijeka Bosna povulka u svoje korito, i dok pomoc pristize iz svih dijelova zemlje i regije, najtezi dio tek sada dolazi. Gradska infrastruktura je u potpunosti unistena, gradjani Maglaja su bez struje, telefonskih linija i pitke vode; vitalne gradske institucije kao skole I zdravstvene institucije su u potpunosti unistene.
U cijelom haosu, jos nije izvjesno kada ce i da li ce djeca grada Maglaja moci da se vrate u svoje skolske klupe. Grad Maglaj je u skoroj proslosti prezivio jednu katastrofu uzrokovanu ratovima u regiji. Sa svesrdnom pomocu dobrih ljudi, Maglaj se uspio da se oporavi od te katastrofe. Sada se Maglaj opet se suocio sa velikom prirodnom katastrofom, i djeca Maglaja trebaju vasu pomoc!
Ova donatorska stranica je pokrenuta sa ciljem da se maglajske skole obnove, ociste i osposobe za upotrebu, tako da bi se maglajska mladost mogla sto prije da vrati u skolske klupe. Nas cilj je da pocnemo od pomoci Mjesovitoj Srednjoj Školi Maglaj, i da nastavimo pomagati maglajskim osnovnim skolama kada se prikupi vise sredstava pomoci. Uspjeli smo da stupimo u kontakt sa gospodinom Erminom Tankovicem, direktorom MSŠ Maglaj, koji ce sluziti kao kontakt osoba pri primanju donacija. Uplata novca ce se izvrsiti direktno maglajskim skolskim ustanovama, bez ikakvih posrednika, kako bi finansijska sredstva stigla do skolskih ustanova kojima su i namjenjena. Ako bi mogli da prikupimo sredstva da se maglajska djeca sto prije vrate u skolske klupe, to bi bila jedna velika pobjeda za grad Maglaj i njegovu mladost!
