Oliver

Our son Oliver was struck down with Acute Necrotising Encephalopathy of Childhood (ANEC) this is a rare brain condition affecting just 150 people across the world. On the 20th February 2016.

Oliver was only three and a half years old. He was rushed into Accident and Emergency Department in Oxford because he had a seizure at home.

The outcome was a Severe Acquired Brain Injury. Our goals are to raise money to improve Oliver’s quality of life and to help the Children Charities that have helped Oliver and so many other children in the UK.

We are  Crowdraising for Oliver who cannot see, talk, eat or walk., we are called B.O.B Fundraising.

The PACE Centre

We are trying to move Oliver to a new school called The PACE Centre in Aylesbury, The PACE Centre is a ground-breaking children’s charity that transforms the lives of children and young people with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy.  Helping children and young people with physical disabilities to achieve their full potential and to be as independent as possible in their current and future lives.

This has been informed to the SEN team in Oxfordshire
that we are wishing for Oliver to go to this school,
Oliver's EHC Plan was taken to panel this year. With sad news the reply was that Oxford County Council will not be helping Oliver's transfer to The PACE Centre in Aylesbury and we will have to appeal and take them to Tribunal to fight our case, we may have to get a solicitor involved which is going to come at a very high cost, this will be a new topic to fundraise for, as this will be an extremely large sum of money to pay out.

Oliver's Story
We now have a Registered Charity No 1164473

He was rush straight into A&E at the JR Hospital Oxford where he was seconds away from dying, His seizures where so strong Oliver had to be put into a induce coma, if this had not of happened, Oliver would of die on the 20th February 2016, but out little Oliver survived.

After numerous tests Doctors said that Oliver was diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis an inflammation of the membranes of the brain and the adjoining cerebral tissue.  But new diagnosis has informed us Oliver has severe Acute necrotizing encephalopathy of childhood (ANEC) is a rare condition characterized by the presence of multifocal symmetrical brain lesions involving mainly thalami, brainstem, cerebellum and white matter. ANEC is a serious and life threatening complication of simple viral infections. Secondary to swine flu. It usually leaves sequelae.

The etiology of acute necrotizing encephalopathy is unknown, but has resulted in a severe acquired brain injury. From being previously fit and well, he is now unable to talk, walk and eat. He has visual difficulties and requires a high level of care 24 hours a day.

We as parents were given the devastating news that our beautiful little boy may never be able to function as he once did. We didn’t know what to do and was rushed with a wide range of emotions. We were really angry and very upset all at the same time.

Oliver needs intensive physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. He is currently PEG fed and is under the care of specialists within the Children's hospital in Oxford he has been at the Children's Trust in Surrey for rehabilitation, hopefully there will be more improvements in his recovery, and he will continue to need a high level of care once he is at home.

Before all this happened Oliver was a happy go lucky fabulous little boy who had attended playgroup and enjoyed being a big brother to his new little sister.

Unfortunately, whilst our NHS is extremely good they are not always able to provide all equipment/therapy/treatment that people need on occasion.

Our goals is to raise money to improve Oliver’s quality of life and to help him get (as close as possible) back to the way he was prior to his illness – this will be done by using the money to provide equipment, therapy and medical treatment that Oliver needs or may benefit from.
