Help Save My Frenchies
Hello my name is Brie and I am a 5 year old French Bulldog and I'm asking for help for me and my mommy Scarlet. Although we have no idea of what is really wrong with us we have been sadly diagnosed with Mast Cell Cancer in July 2014. What looked like a cyst on my belly was that indeed a very nasty grade 3 mass cell skin cancer that would continue to take over my little body and eventually kill me. My beautiful mother Scarlet has the same but hers is not as aggressive as mine and will eventually take her life as well. My human parents rescued my mother 3 years ago from a very unhealthy life and brought her home to finally live a happy life and now she is battling cancer with me. Back in July the Dr gave me 2 weeks to live if chemotherapy was not started right away. We are so lucky to be loved so much that the treatment was started immediately as long as we are not in any pain and could remain the happy funny little Frenchies we are.
Usually after starting this treatment some dogs can get lethargic and lose weight but not us! We gained weight and continue to run around and play with our toys like nothing is wrong. Our Dr cant believe it. He said he has never seen dogs in this stage of this nasty sickness actually gain weight and want to still eat like crazy.
The treatment has been going really well except we are still trying to get the medicine together that fits us best. It's been a back and fourth battle to get it right. One of the medicines makes my white blood cell drop dangerously low and the slightest cold can kill me so we can't take that chance. The tumors on my belly cleared up fast with the treatment and I still have no side effects and I continue to run around and play. My mother has been doing very well with her treatment as well and her small tumors are also diminishing. The Dr gave me 2 weeks to live back in July and months later I'm still here and so is my 9 year old mother both strong and happy as ever.
The reason for our asking for help is our parents have spent everything they have on trying to save us and have nothing left. Since July the costs have exceeded $11,000 and without the treatment the cancer will take our lives quickly. We need this costly medicine for the rest of our lives. Our daddy has started to sell things in our home to help pay for our treatments. They are so sad and everyday is so stressful trying to find ways to continue this treatment for us. They don't have the heart to give up on us because we are still so happy and strong.
We know not everyone that reads this will agree and there will be negative comments and everyone has the right to their own opinion but please be kind at this hard time for us and our family. Also know that we are not suffering or in pain in any way and our owners would never keep us here if we were. We have seen them say goodbye to our Boxer brother a few years ago because he was ready and he let them know. They love us too much to make us suffer and we know they will do the right thing when we can longer go on.
I know this has to eventually take us but we are not ready to go yet and still have so much love and happiness to share. I'm still very young and although my mother is older she still acts like a puppy. We want to continue to play with our toys and give everyone all our never ending frenchie kisses. When we are ready to go we will let you know so please don't let us go. We are not ready to say goodbye and make everyone cry.
