THE LUCKY PUPPY RELOCATION FUND

Lucky Puppy, the San Fernando Valley's pioneering rescue and retail store, has to move from its current location by Oct. 31, 2015.  We're determined to reopen in a new location, but we want to stay in the same downtown Studio City neighborhood where we started; the neighborhood that has nurtured us from Day One; the same neighborhood whose heavy foot traffic has helped thousands discover our rescue and adopt over 1,300 pups (and counting). Unfortunately, since our 2012 grand opening, the price of commercial real estate in Studio City has skyrocketed, and since we're a 100 percent non-profit rescue, finding a suitable new place at an affordable price is going to take some work, a lot of luck, and more than a little cash. So we're soliciting the help of our many fans, customers and benefactors. If Lucky Puppy is important to you and your family, please consider donating to this campaign. We're fighting for our life, but without emergency cash assistance, we may have to go away forever. We certainly don't want that, and we know you don't either. So please, donate NOW! From our staff and the pups... THANK YOU!

HELP SAVE LUCKY PUPPY UPDATE:

Well, we have been served with an Unlawful detainer Eviction Notice, and though we do have counsel to help us, we are now at a very important point in deciding the future of Lucky Puppy.

It may be time to move.  We love our space, and we are heartbroken at the prospect of leaving it, but we want to spend donations and dollars on dogs - not on legal fees.

What Can You do to Help Now?

Are you in Real Estate?
If so, do you know anyone who has a commercial space in the Valley who is dog friendly and would help Lucky Puppy make a smooth and easy transition?  Our wish-list for a space would be a free-standing building with parking, but we’re open to all kinds of ideas.

Are you a Contractor?
If so, could you donate any resources in helping transform a new space into a dog friendly environment?   We’ll need to build new dog pens, and will probably be facing a few construction issues where ever we go.

Are you an Attorney?
If so, would you be willing to do any pro bono or low cost work for us as we review where we are and evaluate our options in any potential move?

Are you a Philanthropist?
Any year-end donations made now are fully tax-deductible and we’re going to need to build up the bank account if we’re going to move to a new location.  Consider helping by making your tax-deductible donation right away!

Everyone can help by getting the word out!
We need you to share our plight and help us get the resources lined up that will allow us to make a move and continue our mission.  If you have media contacts, please alert them to our situation.  Lucky Puppy has placed almost 900 dogs into loving forever homes in only two years.  The model works!  A Rescue shop can succeed!  Please help us keep the Lucky Puppy Dream alive, we cannot do it without your support. Please Help Save Lucky Puppy!

Lucky Puppy was born out of a dream that envisioned Shelter Rescues getting the love and opportunities that they deserve. Owner, Rachel Kennedy, knew that shelters were not only scary for the dogs, but for the families looking to adopt them as well. So the vision that became Lucky Puppy came from a desire to create a loving and fun environment where Shelter rescues could play and visit with potential adopters in a fun and relaxed setting. The dream came true... in just under two years, 825 dogs have found their homes. Today, however, the vision is not only at risk - but so are the dogs.

Lucky Puppy is in serious trouble and we need your help! Our Landlord wants us out. We don’t want to leave our location, as we love Studio City, and our amazing community!

The complaint is that our neighbors (on one side only) are suffering with odor issues as a result of the shop, and that we haven’t corrected the problem. We have brought in an air conditioning specialist on numerous occasions and have paid to have both neighbors air systems examined and cleaned. We’ve properly permitted the shop, as well as grooming, and passed our Health Department inspection. The problem is the building is old, and on one side we share attic space and ventilation with two adjacent units. For a long-term fix in the attic space, we need the landlord to make upgrades as well, and they aren’t willing to participate.

As we approach our two-year anniversary, we look back with joy on the 825 dogs we’ve been able to help find homes. We want to look ahead to doing that for another 800, but we aren’t going to be able to do it alone.

What can you do to help Save Lucky Puppy? Well, short of buying our building and helping us install the needed changes that can have our neighbors and our pups living in harmony with one another (wait, that’s not a bad idea, anyone want to buy the building?), we’re asking for the following help:

* Financial Support to fight the eviction. We can do it, but it isn’t easy and it isn’t cheap. Donations will go toward our legal defense and/or repairs to help us stay put!

* Get the word out! We need media and online exposure to help save our store! Share, Tweet, Instagram… help us shout it from the rooftops.

* Create a petition and get names of vendors along Ventura Boulevard who want Lucky Puppy to stay, and who know how we have helped to increase foot traffic on the Boulevard. Get names of parents, and kids, and Teachers and local politicians - create a grassroots campaign that can allow all the folks who love us to help keep the dream alive.

Please don’t let the Dream die… if it does, many a shelter dog may certainly do so as well.

Thank you for your support, your love and your prayers.
