Sarah's Cancer Fund

August 2016 Sarah started experiencing pain in her breast. Her doctor recommended a sonogram. Everything looked fine and she was assured there was nothing to worry about as it was likely due to the change of her hormones duing her monthly cycle.

Fastforward to August 2017, Sarah began having pain in her left breast again. At the time she had just quit her job of almost seven years so she did not have health insurance. She decided to wait it out and hope it went away. In late August/ early Septmember Sarah noticed a slight red rash, and sentivity.

At the begining of October Sarah first felt a lump in her left breast that continued to grow larger each day.

Despite not having health insurance, with the push from her family she finally saw a doctor. The doctor thought it was an infection and placed Sarah on antibiotics and told her to call back in 7-10 days if it was not better.  After 7 days, and nagging from her family she called the doctor and was told to give it another week to let the antibiotic really do its job.

Two full weeks go by, and the antibiotic has done nothing to relieve the pain/itching/burning or reduce the swelling. So she was referred for a mamagram and sonogram. A mass was found in her breast and another in her axillary lymph nodes.

November 10, 2017 Sarah had a biopsy taken, two in her breast and one in her armpit.  The radiologist told Sarah, her mother and sister that the mass was definitely cancer.

November 14, 2017, three weeks after her 31st birthday, Sarah received her official diagnoses;Invasive Ductile Carcinoma, which means the cancer started in the milk ducts and spreads from there.

Right now there are a gamet of tests that have to be run, as well as doctors and nurses to see. Sarah and her family are just taking one day/one appointment at a time. She will be meeting with the surgeon at the end of November to have a port placed so she can begin chemo treatment.

"I'm really worried about losing my hair, but I would rather lose my hair than my life." - Sarah

The funds from this GoFundMe will first go toward paying for egg harvesting. That is, of course, if the tumor is not estrogen sensitive. If it is estrogen sensitive then taking the hormones in the weeks leading up to harvesting will not be possible as they will make the tumor grow. Right now we are all praying it is not estrogen sensitive so harvesting will still be an option.

If Sarah is not a candidate for egg harvesting the money raised will go toward relieving the burden of paying for medical bills. Sarah plans to continue working while in treatment to keep her insurance, but she will still have co-pays every visit and tests insurance will not cover.
