Nous sommes le collectif Building Social Resilience, travaillant en collaboration avec l’Osservatorio Migranti Basilicata(OMB), et nous demandons aujourd’hui votre aide pour donner vie à un projet d’agriculture solidaire à Spinazzola, dans le Sud de l’Italie.
Notre objectif est de créer une coopérative sociale agricole ayant pour double mission d’offrir une alternative viable à l’agriculture conventionnelle - en cultivant selon des méthodes durables - et de soutenir des activités visant à créer des liens sociaux entre migrants, agriculteurs et habitants.
Grâce à un agriculteur souhaitant que ses propriétés soient utilisées à des fins sociales et à un membre de notre collectif, originaire de Spinazzola, nous avons obtenu la gestion d'un terrain de 15 hectares sur lequel sont situées deux maisons en mauvais état (pour le moment! ).
Comment développer la coopérative ?
Pour réussir, deux conditions incontournables :
- Acquérir un lieu fonctionnel pour mettre en place le projet.
- Obtenir le soutien et l’implication de la communauté locale.
Notre première action sera donc d’ouvrir un chantier social – projet Casalina - afin de rénover la maison de 130 m² présente sur le terrain grâce à un travail collectif. Le chantier se déroulerait du 4 au 31 juillet et serait assuré par les membres bénévoles du collectif Building Social Resilience et un groupe constitué de demandeurs d’asile, rémunérés par l’organisation locale partenaire, l’OMB.
Ce chantier de rénovation a une double visée : il a pour principale fonction de créer des liens entre les participants et la population locale, condition sine qua non au succès du projet, et de construire un espace éphémère de rencontre et d’échange. Il a aussi pour but, évidemment, de remettre en état les futurs locaux nécessaires à la gestion de la coopérative (point de ralliement, de vente, de stockage de l’outillage). Au vu du modeste montant que nous espérons récolter, l’idée est simplement d’avoir un espace fermé et couvert et de permettre l’accès à des points d’eaux, des sanitaires et un raccordement électrique.
En outre, des ateliers sur l’agriculture durable seront animés par des producteurs bio de la région, pendant toute la durée du chantier. Ils viendront ainsi partager leurs connaissances dans le cadre d'une première collaboration.
Le Collectif compte sur l’aide précieuse d’une vingtaine de jeunes professionnels, s’investissant dans des projets d’action sociale (soutien aux réfugiés, aux sans-papiers, aux médias libres…) et agricoles (création d'une ferme en permaculture, d’un système d’irrigation en Gambie, soutien à l’agriculture locale…). Fort de leurs expériences et de leurs compétences personnelles et professionnelles, ces bénévoles travaillent en équipe :
UNE EQUIPE CONSTRUCTION qui regroupe deux électriciens, un ferronnier, deux architectes, deux plombiers, un chauffagiste, un maçon, deux maraîchers - chargés de la rénovation.
UNE EQUIPE GESTION ADMINISTRATIVE qui regroupe un avocat, deux sociologues, une coordinatrice de projets, une consultante en fond européen, une linguiste, une chargée en communication - gérant les aspects juridiques, logistiques et la communication du projet.
UNE EQUIPE CREATIVE qui regroupe un graphiste, un ingénieur son, une photographe, un monteur vidéo & son, une artiste peintre - chargés de la communication et de la mise en place d’ateliers ludiques visant à créer des liens avec les habitants locaux et à favoriser l’implantation du projet.
Pendant toute la durée du chantier, le lieu sera ouvert aux habitants du village et aux visiteurs éventuels qui souhaitent : pratiquer une langue étrangère, donner un coup de main, nous faire profiter de leurs compétences en construction ou en agriculture, apprendre des nôtres ou simplement partager une tasse de café.
L’argent récolté sera utilisé pour les activités du mois de juillet.
Voici les coûts estimés pour l’entièreté du projet :
Travaux de plomberie (dont achat d'une pompe hydrophore) : 1850€
Travaux d'électricité : 2653€
Travaux de plafonnage : 600€
Travaux de carrelage : 1475€
Travaux de peinture : 500€
Pour le temps du chantier :
Construction de deux toilettes sèches.
Construction d'un bac de filtration pour les eaux usagées.
Cela fera partie de nos dépenses mais nous n'en avons pas estimé le coût qui sera relativement faible.
Pour ne pas avoir à louer/emprunter trop d'outils sur place et pour partir avec un outillage moderne et de qualité (appartenant aux divers membres du collectif du fait de leur profession), deux volontaires vont descendre avec un camion transportant tous les outils nécessaires.
Le trajet Bruxelles-Spinazzola aller-retour est estimé à 352,27 x 2 = 704,54€
Le coût total du projet : 7.782 €
Toutes les sommes supplémentaires récoltées seront réinvesties dans le futur projet de coopérative agricole.

L’association Osservatorio Migranti Basilicata (OMB) avec laquelle nous nous associons est à la base un groupe de chercheurs, rejoint depuis par des militants et des artistes, qui a développé ses études et ses activités autour de la problématique des conditions de travail des migrants en Europe : les dynamiques d’illégalisation, de racialisation et d’exploitation du travail dans le secteur agricole.
La région des Pouilles est particulièrement touchée par ce phénomène : les personnes migrantes arrivent par le sud de l'Italie et se retrouvent dans de nombreux cas à travailler pour de grosses exploitations agricoles, sans contrat, parfois sans salaire et dans des conditions de travail difficiles.
Le collectif Building Social Resilience se pose des objectifs durables : reconvertir cet espace en une coopérative agricole qui prend en considération les problématiques socio-culturelles, économique et environnementales. Le projet de coopérative devrait débuter au mois de septembre et prendrait vie grâce à la collaboration de l’OMB, quatre membres de notre collectif, enthousiastes à l’idée de migrer un temps vers le sud de l’Italie et des locaux. We are the Building Social Resilience collective, collaborating with the Osservatorio Migranti Basilicata (OMB). Today, we are asking for your help in bringing our community-supported agriculture project to life in Spinazzola, Southern Italy.
Our objective is to create an agricultural social cooperative with two main goals: put forward a viable alternative to conventional farming – using sustainable practices – and support social bonding activities between migrants, farmers and locals.
Thanks to a local farmer wishing that his land could benefit social work and a member of our collective from Spinazzola, we’ve been granted the management and control over a 15 hectare field upon which stand two houses in poor condition (for now..)
How to further develop the cooperative?
In order to achieve our goal, two conditions must be satisfied:
- to get a functional and performant location for the project’s start-up,
- to receive both support and involvement from the local community.
So our first task will be to start a social construction site – theCasalina project – in order to fix up the first house (130 m2) on the 15 ha land. The site will be mobilized from July the 4th to 31st. It will be carried out by volunteer members from the Building Social Resilience collective and a group of asylum seekers, paid a decent wage by the local partner organization (OMB).
The renovation site has two purposes. Its first aim and prerequisite is to bring people together, both volunteers and locals – and to give a temporary opportunity to meet and share. It also cares for rehabilitating the future cooperative offices (meeting point, selling, storage and utility spaces).
Considering the small income that our funding will be earning, our main concern is to end up with a closed and covered by a roof space with access to watering points, lavatories and electrical connection.
Furthermore, local organic farmers will be giving workshops on agriculture during the building site period. We are looking forward benefit from their experience in a first partnership.
The Collective relies upon the valuable help of some twenty young professionals who have been committed in various social works (care for refugees, undocumented migrants, contribution to free media, etc.) and agricultural projects (establishing a permaculture farm, an irrigating system in Gambia, supporting local food production, etc.).
Given their experience and professional skills, volunteers will be working into several teams:
A CONSTRUCTION TEAM gathering two electricians, a blacksmith, two architects, two plumbers, a heating engineer, a mason, two greengrocers – they will be in charge of renovating the house,
AN ADMINISTRATION TEAM gathering a lawyer, two sociologists, a project coordinator, an European Fund consultant, a linguist, a communication manager – that will deal with the legal, logistic and communication aspects of the project ;
A CREATIVE TEAM gathering a graphic designer, a sound engineer, a photograph, an sound & video editor, a painter – that also has a communication part yet this time directed towards setting up artistic workshops aiming at bonding with locals and fostering the introduction of the project.
During the whole length of the site, the land will be open to local villagers and potential visitors who may wish to : practice a foreign language, give a helping hand, share their own skills in construction or agriculture, learn from ours or simply have a cup of tea.
All funding will be spent on July Casalina project.
These are our estimated costs for the following works of:
- Plumbing (including purchase of a hydrophore pump): 1850 €
- Electricity: 2653 €
- Ceiling: 600 €
- Tiling: 1475 €
- Painting: 500 €
For the renovation period, we do need:
- to build two dry toilets,
- and to set up a filtration tank for wastewater.
These will be a small part of our total expenses but we have not yet estimated their final cost.
In order to not rent too many tools on site and bring in modern and quality tools (belonging to the collective’s various members, depending on their profession), two volunteers will come over with a truck bringing all necessary tools.
The Brussels-Spinazzola journey is estimated to € 352.27 * 2, hence € 704.54.
Total expenses : 7.782 €

The Osservatorio Migranti Basilicata (OMB) organization we will be collaborating with was originally developed by a group of searchers and academics, joined by militants and artists since then. It has been focusing its studies and work towards the problematic of migrants working condition in Europe: the illegalization, racialization and work exploitation dynamics in agriculture sector.
The Puglia region is particularly affected by this phenomenon: migrants arrive in Southern Italy and usually end up working for large farms, without any employment contracts, sometimes without any salary and in difficult working conditions.
Therefore, the Building Social Resilience collective has set out long-lasting objectives: convert this land into an agricultural cooperative that takes into account our current socio-cultural, economic and environmental issues. The cooperative project is bound to start early September and will be brought to life thanks to the OMB collaboration, the locals and four collective members, keen to move to Southern Italy for a while. The objective is also to have a long-lasting working relationship with migrants and to involve them into the cooperative so that they may benefit from decent working conditions and salary.
