Help/Relief for a Venezuelan Family

My name is Karen and I am starting this Go Fund Me to help my mother and brother, whom I haven't seen in over 20 years. As you may have heard the situation in Venezuela has been getting worse; there is no food or water, there is no access to medical supplies, violence is rampant. Even if I am unable to bring them to live with me here in the U.S., my goal is to help them find a better living situation in another country that will offer them more opportunities for a normal life.
In my brother's own words, here is an sample of what my mother and brother go through on a daily basis:
"We need help! From the heart, and as sad as it sounds, we need to flee from our home country.
This is our story:
My name is Brayan. I am 18 years old and I currently study Graphic Studio Design. I am a photographer and I speak Spanish and English. I live with my mother Sara of 50 years and our cat Mio in Venezuela. I love to study and work as these are 2 things that I know will help me fulfill the goals I have in life. Sadly though, in my country I find that this has become nothing more than a fantasy as life in Venezuela has no value. I fear for my life and I fear for the life of my mother.
Venezuela is going through the worst moment in its history thanks to its dictators. This has led us to be one of the countries with the highest levels of corruption in Latin America; we have the highest inflation in the world, medical and health conditions are critical, as well as the highest rate of insecurity and lack of opportunities of all kinds. In Venezuela we are living alone and only to eat, because the salary that is earned does not cover the basic food basket. In shorter words and with numbers, a Venezuelan can earn as minimum salary (with a food bonus) 200,000, 00 Bs; as is the case with my mom, a kilo of cheese is 150,000.00 Bs, meat is 90,000.00 Bs, and a simple egg carton can cost 140,000.00 Bs. The problem with this is that while I write here or you read on the other side, these prices continue to rise, because the country's inflation has exceeded its limits.
The reason I ask for this help is because the situation is consuming us. I want to feel that I have a quality of life that allows me to fight for my dreams, because we all know that it is only a short amount of time that we have to achieve them. As for helping my mother, I no longer want her to be afraid of simply going outside for fear that harm may come her way. In Venezuela it has become a dream to simply go out on to the street with a phone, without fear of anything happening, but it is simply impossible. We are humiliated and have our rights violated each and every day despite being in a country that claims to be Democratic.
It's sad to have to say it this way, but we need to flee from our country and this situation. In this campaign I ask you for help to pay for 2 plane tickets and to be able to pay at least one month of rent in our destination country. We are also in the process of selling objects of some personal value, and the home in which we currently live, in order to have funds to get out of this dictatorship but this has proven to be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
The estimate for expenses is as follows:
- Around $2,000 for both tickets.
- $200 for medical insurance for both.
- $400 to process passport for both.
- $400 for border permit for both (since the flight will be taken from another country).
- $400 taxes and fees.
- $2,000 for the first month of rent upon arrival in destination country.
- $1,600 for food, personal effects and any additional travel expenses.
Total estimate $ 7,000
The idea is to leave here as soon as possible, with the funds that we are able to raise as well as whatever funds we have, in order to be able to start living again. I will be forever grateful with any and every contribution that is made, however big or small it will be a great help. It doesn't even matter if you can donate or not, just sharing this initiative with your acquaintances can also help us."
To be clear: no amount from these funds will go towards personal use. These funds will be reserved for immigration paperwork, plane tickets, living expenses and personal effects for my mother and brother only. I am indeed the sole person handling this account and I will be withdrawing the funds personally; I will disperse these funds to my mother and brother as needed as they make their transition out of the country (Venezuela) and in to their new living situation.
