Help our friends get back on their feet

This is Mike and Tracey's story.  Mike is an NYPD officer and Tracey is a special education teacher.  Mike and Tracey are newlyweds who recently were married in July of this year and share a home in Far Rockaway. 

 

If you never heard about Far Rockaway I'm sure you have now. Hurricane Sandy has left this community devastated.  Homes have been destroyed through flooding, fires and now looting.

 

But let's focus back on Mike and Tracey.  Their home has been destroyed.  Their car was inundated with over 8 feet of water.   The hurricane left their basement and first floor flooded.  They have no water or power.  They even witnessed a stranger "inspecting" their home and luckily warned him not to come back.  They don't have flood insurance because they live so close to the water.  They like others are waiting assistance from FEMA.  They are currently living with just a few possessions out of bags, trying their best to take care of everything on their own. 

 

No one should be tackling these events on their own - especially not Mike and Tracey. Everyone who knows them must want to help but not know how or where to begin.

 

While their story is no different than those of what we see on the news - what makes this story different is that I know them.  And now you do too.  I'm hoping that now that you know their story together we perhaps can replace what Mother Nature took away.

 

Let's help get them back home.  To enjoy the safety of a roof over their head, a warm shower and a comfy bed like we get to tonight.  Please.
