<div>Our lives were happy and full, and we were constantly grateful for the wonderful family we had built. We felt fortunate every single day. But everything has changed, from one day to another. We are now reaching out to you with the heaviest hearts, because our little Olivia, just 4 years old, has been through an unimaginable battle, and our family has been shattered by it.

<div>Just days after her third birthday, Olivia was diagnosed with a rare and devastating autoimmune disease called Neuromyelitis Optica (also known as Devic's Syndrome), which left her paralyzed from the chest down. This illness struck out of nowhere, turning our world upside down. In what felt like the blink of an eye, our happy, normal life was replaced with uncertainty, fear, and a daily struggle for hope.

<div>We are a family of four, living abroad and facing this challenge has been incredibly difficult for all of us. It has left us feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed, but we are determined to give Olivia the best chance at recovery. That’s why we are starting this GoFundMe campaign - to ask for help with something that, right now, feels too big for us to handle alone.

<div><strong>What Happened to Olivia:</strong>

<div>On the night of July 4th 2023, Olivia suddenly woke up and was crying loudly. When we ran into her room, she was sitting by her bed and complaining of back pain in the middle of tears. Being only 3 she was not able to express how she felt exactly or what had happened to her before she started crying. After bringing her to our bed and making many attempts to calm her down, we noticed she did not seem to be able to stand so we rushed to the hospital with her. The doctor after examining her didn’t detect anything alarming and we were sent home. By morning, however, everything changed. Olivia had developed a fever, vomited, and her arms and legs had become flaccid. We returned to the hospital, but by that point, she had lost movement in her entire body.

<div>What followed was every parent’s worst nightmare. Olivia became paralyzed from the neck down and spent almost two months in the hospital, much of it in the ICU. Within a few days she started to regain movement in her arms, her legs, however, remained paralyzed. We stayed with her day and night and watched her battling, trying to digest what had been communicated to us by the hospital doctors and trying hard not to break seeing her pushing us away. Due to the trauma and medications, she was not herself and did not let us touch or hug her for several weeks.

<div>Due to her immune system failure her body started to attack itself by damaging the protective myelitis around her spinal cord in the next area and behind her right eye that led to a serious injury of her nervous system. Consequently her brain lost contact with her other body parts hence why the paralysis.
</div>
<div>Her immune system needed to be suppressed in order to not continue attacking, and her body needed to be washed out of the damaging antibodies that her immune system had falsely produced.
</div>
<div>Despite the treatments, which included steroids, immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis, Olivia’s condition left her an extremely challenging life.
</div>
<div>Her neck and arms as well as partially her trunk have recovered but her legs have not and she also has a neurogenic bladder meaning needs to be catheterized 5 times a day and wearing nappies.
</div>

<div><strong>Why We Need Your Help: </strong>

<div>Olivia is now undergoing intensive physical therapy, and we have been fortunate to find an incredible clinic that not only supports her physically, but also provides care for her emotional and mental well-being. For a 4 years old toddler it is inexpressibly crucial, not to mention the ability to get over such trauma. Thanks to them, our once quiet and reserved little girl is slowly becoming her cheerful, chatty self again. But this therapy is expensive, and we simply cannot continue to afford it on our own.

<div>Az életünk normális mederben folyt, neveltük a gyerekeinket, dolgoztunk és mentünk előre, mint minden más család. Mindez egyik napról a másikra fenekestől felfordult és lassan két éve minden napunk küzdelemmé vált. Néhány nappal a harmadik születésnapja után Olíviát egy nagyon ritka autoimmun betegség támadta meg, neuromyelitis optica (más néven Devic szindróma) ami lebénította a mellkasától lefelé.

<div><strong>Mi történt Olíviával?</strong>

<div>2023. július 4-én éjjel Olívia sírva ébredt és elviselhetetlen hátfájásra panaszkodott. Mivel éppen csak betöltötte a hármat, nem tudta még pontosan elmagyarázni mi történik vele. Próbáltuk megnyugtatni, csitítani, de nem szűnt meg a fájdalom és azt vettük észre, hogy egyedül, segítség nélkül nem képes lábra állni. Az ügyeleten az orvos nem talált semmi aggasztót, ezért hazaküldtek bennünket.

<div>Reggelre azonban minden örökre megváltozott. Olívia lázas volt, hányt és nyaktól lefelé teljesen megbénult, karjai és lábai teljesen ernyedtek voltak. Mire a kórházba értünk vele, már az arcizmait sem tudta mozgatni.
</div>
<div>Két hónapot töltöttünk a kórházban, ennek java részét az intenzív osztályon mert bármikor leállhatott volna a légzése. Minden nap egy rémálom volt, minden nap abban a félelemben telt, hogy ez lesz a nap amikor elveszítjük a kislányunkat?
</div>
<div>Olivia néhány napon belül már tudta mozgatni a kezeit, mosolyogni is képes volt, de a lábai nem mozdultak. A trauma, a rengeteg gyógyszer és szteroid hatására Olívia teljesen összetört, kifordult önmagából és rettegett mindentől.
</div>
<div>Mire elhagyhattuk a kórházat, Olívia tudta mozgatni a kezeit, de sem ülni nem tudott egyedül, sem a lábait nem tudta mozgatni. Emellett a bénulás miatt neurogén hólyagja lett, ami miatt mai napig naponta ötször kell katétereznünk és sajnos pelenkát kell viselnie.

<div><strong>Miért van szükségünk segítségre?</strong>

<div>Olíviával jelenleg intenzív fizióterápiára járunk egy klinikára, ahol nem csak fizikailag, de érzelmileg is támogatják és megtesznek mindent azért, hogy felépüljön. Mivel még csak négy éves, ez rendkívül fontos számára és nagyon sokat segít abban, hogy túljusson a traumán. Nekik köszönhetően Olívia szép lassan újra önmaga tudott lenni. Újra mosolyog, beszél és aktívan részt vesz a tornában. A terápia, a gyógyászati eszközök annyira sokba kerülnek, hogy az elmúlt 18 hónapban teljesen kimerítettük a családi kasszánkat és minden félretett pénzünket erre költöttük.

<div>Azért indítottuk ezt a kampányt, hogy Olíviának az életét és mindennapokat megkönnyítő terápiát legalább még egy évig (vagy tovább) tudjuk finanszírozni, remélve, hogy közben annyira felépül,hogy jelentősen jobb minőségű életet élhet majd. Számára ez egy kritikus időszak a fejlődésben és a most kapott terápia adja neki a legnagyobb esélyt arra, hogy újra járhasson.

<div><strong>¿Qué le pasó a Olivia?</strong>

<div>Pocos días después de su tercer cumpleaños, Olivia fue diagnosticada con una enfermedad autoinmune rara y devastadora llamada Neuromielitis Óptica (también conocida como Síndrome de Devic), que la dejó paralizada desde el pecho hacia abajo.

<div><strong>La noche en que todo cambió</strong>

<div>La noche del 4 de julio de 2023, Olivia se despertó llorando con un dolor intenso en la espalda. Corrimos a su habitación y la encontramos sentada junto a la cama, llorando sin poder explicarnos qué le pasaba.

<div>La llevamos a nuestra cama e intentamos calmarla, pero nos dimos cuenta de que no podía ponerse de pie, así que la llevamos de inmediato al hospital.

<div>El médico la revisó, pero no encontró nada alarmante y nos enviaron de vuelta a casa. A la mañana siguiente, todo cambió: Olivia tenía fiebre, vomitaba y sus brazos y piernas estaban completamente flácidos.

<div>Regresamos al hospital de urgencia, pero ya era demasiado tarde: había perdido la movilidad en todo su cuerpo.

<div>Los siguientes días fueron una pesadilla. Olivia quedó paralizada del cuello hacia abajo y pasó casi dos meses en el hospital, gran parte de ese tiempo en cuidados intensivos.

<div>Pocos días después, empezó a recuperar movimiento en los brazos, pero sus piernas quedaron paralizadas.

<div>Estuvimos a su lado día y noche, tratando de entender lo que los médicos nos explicaban y, al mismo tiempo, intentando no derrumbarnos al ver a nuestra hija rechazándonos.

<div>El trauma y la medicación cambiaron su comportamiento: durante semanas no nos dejaba abrazarla ni tocarla.

<div>Debido a la falla de su sistema inmunológico, su cuerpo se atacó a sí mismo, dañando la mielina protectora de su médula espinal y el nervio óptico de su ojo derecho.

<div>Como resultado, su cerebro perdió contacto con las partes afectadas de su cuerpo, causando parálisis.
