Help Nawar's Family, Iraqi Refugees

Donation protected
As many of you know, I worked in Iraq on a community development program back in 2008-09. Since then, many of my Iraqi friends and colleagues have left the country. They are in Germany, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands - spread out around the world away from their families and communities. One colleague, Nawar, his wife, Raghad, and their two children are living in Los Angeles. They are refugees.

We visited them last month when we were in California visiting Matt's family. Raghad cooked us a delicious Iraqi meal. Caroline loved playing with their daughter.

The children are in good schools and are speaking excellent English. Raghad is studying to become a pre-school teacher. Nawar is working, but as you can imagine, well-paying jobs for refugees are hard to find. They doing well, but there are still some struggles. Los Angeles is a very expensive city.

And yet, they owe the US Government $6,000 for their airfare as refugees coming to the USA. Did you know that when the US brings refugees to our country, the government purchases the plane tickets and requires the refugees to pay them back? I didn't know that, until now.

Nawar's family has paid almost half of the cost. I am trying to help them by raising the rest. Please consider donating what you can. Think about the current environment for Iraqis, espeically refugees, in our country, right now. I'd really appreciate your help.

Thank you so much for your support.
