Help Mrs. Miranda

The following story has been updated to explain our current situation as of April 2019. Please take a moment to read our mother's story, and donate. The goal has been changed to help raise funds for an Emotional Support Animal/Service Animal.

Our mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in November of 2017. She is on Medi-cal so the time it takes to get referrals, approvals and appointments is very, very slow. However, everything so far has been covered which makes the process tolerable. On February 19th she went into surgery and got the modified radical mastectomy on her entire right breast and the first grid of Lymph Nodes were removed. She went in to get the pathology report a month later and was told the surgeon had removed a surprising 13 cm tumor. Of the 30 Lymph Nodes removed from the 1st grid, 25 of them tested positive for cancer...

We weren’t sure if it had spread to another organ. She is Stage 3C, meaning the cancer is invasive. On April 2nd in 2018, we went with her to the oncologist to hear the results from the PET scan. We’re proud to announce that our mother is cancer free! However, the size of her tumor proves the cancer was very advanced so she is at an increased risk of having the cancer return.

||| Why we need your help getting an Emotional Support Animal |||

She spent 8 months doing intense chemotherapy followed by 2 months of radiation. She took time off of work and was hospitalized several times due to her lowered immune system. With help from family and friends, we successfully raised $9,000 out of our $10,000 goal and we were able to pay off her outstanding balances and take care of rent while she was taking time off of work.  As of April 2019,  she is in remission, but the journey is still not over. Due to her state of health, she is currently unemployed.

The treatments have taken their toll on her body and have also caused plenty of stress.  She has been in a constant state of illness for the past 10 months and hasn’t really had a chance to fully recover. The possibility of another hospital visit is very high so we need to make sure she maintains a healthy lifestyle and mindset.

On top of a change of diet, we are looking into getting an Emotional Support Animal/Service Animal for our mother. She has always made a point to stay positive throughout her treatment, but the changes chemo made to her body were hard to deal with and still are. She is weaker than she used to be and lacks the energy to do certain activities that would benefit her health. Although we are trying our best to stay on top of it, we aren’t always there to motivate or remind her! :(

Having a furry companion would give her a reason to get up and be active and also help boost her esteem! Since the start of her journey she has always been full of positivity but poor health has caused her to lose faith in herself.  An ESA/SA would be a constant friend she can bring with her to places she otherwise would not have the motivation to visit as well as provide an easier way to get some daily exercise (cardio!!) . It would bring us peace of mind knowing she isn’t alone.  For us, her health and mindset are top priority at this point of her journey.  We have raised our goal to $11,000 in the hopes it will cover the costs of adoption, permits, training and possible supplies/vet visits to help our mother get started as a new pet owner! We are very hopeful and determined to get this happening for her! Thank you so much to anyone that supports/shares this new update!
