"My foot is shrinking!" states Maria while propped up on the examination chair.
Maria Keeton had just experienced having a portion of her left foot amputated, leaving her with a projected nub where her phantom toes tickle and taunt her from time to time.
She is a Rebel. Not just that her maiden name is "Rebel, " but she likes to do things on her own. That includes her reluctance in asking for help.
Those who know her would say she is the kindest, gentlest, giving person ever. This tiny timid woman would jump into the middle of a hurricane of a bar fight to stop anybody from getting hurt.
Some say her modesty stems from being pulled out of high school early to help with her family affairs. Later, as a single mother, she worked multiple jobs to support her child.
Unfortunately, Maria, her husband, and the doctor did not know the severity of her diabetes. She fell into severe diabetic shock.
Nobody likes waking up in the hospital especially with missing limbs and grasping not having health insurance.
She has been blessed with a village of support. Consisting of her husband, son, niece and sister taking rotating shifts to care for her.
However, her and her family have hit a wall. Savings are running bone dry, and Maria is still in need of surgery.
I have set up this GoFundMe Campaign to raise $5,000 for the surgery in hopes that it is the last operation and treatment she will have to endure.
If we didn't pawn most of our goods, we would have something to give for donations. Just think of it as helping a friend.
