One year following devastating Typhoon Yolanda, the city of Tacloban continues to rebuild and suffer.
As many of you recall, I volunteered last year on a medical mission called "Rosa Mystica," that aimed to bring medical relief to this town, which had been declared a disaster zone. I started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds for supplies and medicine, and because of the kindness and genorosity of many of you, I was able to buy over 100lbs of crucial medicine and supplies for infection and wound care, paid for my travel to the Philippines, and covered the transport of the material. It was an incredible experience, and over 8 days we helped almost 4000 people with their innuries and ailments. Many of you followed my blog on facebook as I chronicled the mission, and showed me such kindness and support, I was overwhelmed.
Well, it's 2015 and I am sending you this message because I have rejoined Rosa Mystica, as they have committed to returning to Tacloban to continue the care we started. Much of the city remains in ruins, and there are still refugees living in camps throughout the city. They may actually be a decade away from meaningful recovery.
Please, please watch the video, and see how well organized the mission was, and the scores of people we helped. This is a true charity mission, and well organized. But we are only truly helpful if we are well supplied. Every penny helps, and will go directly to helping the people of Tacloban.
So many tragedies can be easily forgotten over the lull of time. Please, help me remind these kind and humble people, they have not been forgotten by the world.
