My name is Manuel Baez and I'm a close friend of Mike & Katgie Vicens. I've started this GoFund Me campaign on their behalf during this difficult time for them. Mike is a truly strong person and athlete and we have no doubt that he will recover. He needs time to rest and heal. Through this campaign we hope that everyone that knows him or can understand the situation that he and his family are going through, help raise enough funds, so that Mike can be at ease knowing that his family is going to be well cared for during his recovery and that he need not worry about any crazy medical expenses.
This is the story of the incident as related by his close friend and witness to the accident, Carson...
" Mike Vicens was recently involved in a life threatening accident. He was assisting with his jet ski in a film production in Rincon, Puerto Rico on March 11, 2018. The stunt involved 2 jet skis and 2 actors. Both actors were to wear a harness with a very large bungie cord shackled to the back of each others harnesses. The actors were operating the jet skis solo. They were going to speed away in opposite directions until the bungie cord stretched out and eventually pulled them off the jet ski. After a short dialogue, both actors at the same time throttled the jet skis speeding away from each other and, as the bungie cord stretched to the max, it snapped from the harness off one of the actors and struck Mike in the head at full velocity! We immediately pulled Mike from the water and started assessing his wounds. He had a large laceration on his right ear and was bleeding profusely. It almost cut his ear off. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Mayagüez and received stitches to his ear. Then a CT scan on his head revealed 2 cracks in his cranium and bleeding on the brain. He was medivac by helicopter to Centro Medico in San Juan and under went emergency brain surgery. The surgeon cut open his cranium and released the pressure then put a metal plate on his skull and stapled his scalp back together. He is now recuperating with his wife Katgie who has been unbelievably strong and supportive during all this turmoil. They have two beautiful children, 1yr old son Enzo, and 9yr old daughter Marley. He is an Air Traffic controller by profession, one of the highest ranked stress jobs, working at Borinquen airport in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. His profession is very strict against head traumas and injuries which could unfortunately harm his job. He lives a very active lifestyle and had recently moved from San Juan, PR, working in the San Juan airport tower, to Aguadilla airport tower. During the transition he had not reinstated his insurance, therefore, he has no insurance to cover the medical bills or compensation benefits for the months ahead without being able to work and support his family. His family asks if you can please help out in supporting him while he is recovering and rehabbing by donating any amount you feel comfortable with. "
We thank you in advance on behalf of Mike & Katgie Vicens.
