Matt Beach's Road to Recovery

My nephew Matthew Beach is currently in the ICU at the CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital in Minnesota. He was admitted on May 11th after being sick for 10 days. Doctors found a calcified mass in his chest, and they have been working hard to make a diagnosis so that they can treat him properly.  There have been concerns that it is lymphoma or an infection like histoplasmosis (caused by breathing in spores from a fungus). Since being admitted, Matt's condition has been getting drastically worse.  On May 14th, he was transferred to the ICU, sedated, and put on a breathing tube so that he no longer needed to struggle as the doctors try to find a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. One of his lungs collapsed, and he has been fighting pneumonia and fluid around his heart.  He is now on a feeding tube.  Matt has been through so much - pain, fever, breathing difficulty, and more. 

We are still waiting for a diagnosis. After surgery today (May 19th) to obtain more tissue samples from the mass, it appears to be a severe infection. Further testing is being done so that the best treatment can be put into place.

Matt and his wife Allison have a beautiful little girl, Adley Jayce, who will be one in August.  Matt is one of four children of Brent and Deanna Beach. They and other family members have been by his side during this time.
