TTP funds for Maggie!

Donation protected
Hello,
On November 17, 2017, our sister, Maggie Regalado was rushed to the hospital due do a seizure. She was immediately admitted into ICU with a diagnoses of acquired TTP. aTTP (acquired Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura)
is a rare and life threataning blood disorder.  http://www.understandingttp.com/patient/

Her first night in ICU Maggie lost her memory and some mobility due to the lack of oxygen to her brain. Her platelet levels had falling dangerously low at 6,000. A normal human range is approximately 140,000-350,000. An emergency blood transfusion had to be done prior to beginning her lifesaving treatments. She needed at least 5-cycles of Plasmapheresis (plasma exchange) to increase her platelets to a safe level . Plasmapheresis treatment pulls her blood and separates her bad plasma then returns her red/white blood cells along with a donors frozen plasma. This 1-2hour treatment helps increase her platelet levels.

In addition to these treatments, she will need to go through a Rituxan medication treatment (4-6hours) for a month after she is discharged from the hospital. This treatment will help reduce the risk of relapsing, however, anything can trigger a relapse such as a bad cold, stress, and/or even pregnancy.

With the help of the plasma exchange, Maggie is finally closer to recovering. She regained her memory, speech, and mobility without permanent brain damage. Going forward, Maggie will have a team of doctors she will need to check in with once in a while. Occasionally, she may require a treatment if her platelet levels start to slowly decrease. Her life will be a little more challenging, but now that we are aware of this disorder we know the signs to look out for.

As you know, this disorder came out of left field for her.... and unfortunately, these treatments come at a high cost. To put some ease on Maggie and her family we are asking for donations to help with the anticipated medical bills and off-set the income they will lose from her time off of work.

Maggie really appreciates all of the love and support she has been receiving. Please continue to pray for her as she continues to recover and fight against TTP.
