My Journey to WheatStalk 2018

Donation protected
My name is Lieschen Moller, and I started baking bread as a hobby and to feed my family about 12 years ago. For health reasons, I took the plunge into baking slow fermented, naturally leavened breads just in the past year. I now enjoy the challenge of cultivating wild-yeast sourdough using grains I mill myself from my home-based micro-bakery on the weekends. I value connecting with local farmers, local suppliers, and the baking community at large. I find a particular joy in gifting bread to my loved ones and community members.

I've been selected to attend WheatStalk 2018! The purpose of this fundraiser is to help cover my registration, travel and accomodation costs. This highly anticipated event for professionals and serious home bakers only occurs every two years. Because attendance is by lottery only, I may never have another chance to attend.

This year, WheatStalk will be held at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, Feb. 27-March 1. Organized by the Bread Baker's Guild of America, it will be three intense days of lectures, demos, hands-on classes for member bakers to learn and improve techniques, share ideas, and build community. WheatStalk is considered BBGA's premiere event. The instructors are amongst some of the best and brightest bakers in the country and the world.

I attended a workshop at San Francisco Baking Institute last year, where I honed my skills and was inspired to continue to pursue my passion. I hope to attend similar workshops in the near future!

I became a member of the Bread Baker's Guild of America (BBGA) in 2017. BBGA sponsors numerous opportunities for training and connection in the bread baking community all over the country.

I feel very fortunate to have been selected to attend this year, and am excited to learn under the instruction of such prestigious mentors. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I would be incredibly grateful for any financial assistance this fundraiser could provide. Thank you!
