#HelpLarson'sAdopt

I grew up with an older biological sister and two younger adopted brothers.  Before I married, I just knew adoption would be apart of our family as well.  I believed it would be similar to my childhood.  After the birth of our 2nd child, it was naturally time to adopt our next, right?  Well, God brought us one more!  It threw me from my adoption roadmap, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.  Life would not be the same without our Chet Man :)
My husband was an only child, so just experiencing sibling dynamics was new for him.  His openness to bringing a child into our circle was a slower pace than mine.  I believe that what really changed his perspective is when he began to work as the Ministry Director at Dream Center Peoria.  There were days he would come home and just sob after he shared the story of the day.  The stories were all similar.  Kids without dads, or moms who may or may not show up.  Kids in foster care who were angry.
While he still worked there, a young man came to my husband seeking shelter.  DCP only housed women and children. When Matt received that call, the Holy Spirit moved in us.  We prayed about what we should do, and I distinctly heard the Lord say "Take him in".  He lived with us for 8 months.  In that time, we heard his story of growing up in foster care by a single woman.  He never had a father figure in his life and felt abandoned by his own parents.  We treated him as our own son, and did our best to share God's love and truth the best we knew how at that time.
Opening our home to him changed our family.  He gave us a new perspective to the need of a loving mother and father in a child's growing up.  It also opened my heart to the idea of adopting an older child.  In the years before, my heart was set on adopting a baby.  A little girl who would know nothing else but being ours.  I guess this desire is how most women feel.  It took taking in a young adult who still needed guidance to help me see I can be a mother to any child in need.
It's been a long road for us to get here.  We've taken detours, and hit bumps along the way.  God has continued to ask our hearts if we are now ready to step out in faith.  We have a small home, and we are not loaded with thousands of dollars in the bank ready to bring our daughter home.  But our hearts have grown larger, our family unit stronger, and our resolve more solidified.
We cashed in our Roth IRA to make up the rest of what we needed to start our home study and dossier.  Once we get our paperwork done, we will be eligible to apply for grants!  Even with this help, we will still be in the red of what is needed.  We are working on a yard sale for the spring, having a t-shirt sale, Matt is working on producing an album to sell and we hope to set up some concerts in the future.  If you would like to help, you can either donate here, directly, or purchase from one of our many fundraisers!
We have been agency approved to adopt from India.  We are seeking a girl between the ages 5-9, and are open to a sibling group of two girls around those ages.  We have our picture in our minds of who we are seeking, but after 21 years of marriage, we have learned to be open to change when God redirects.  Our role at this point is just to begin and trust!  We pray that God will whisper in your hearts to join us in the joy of offering a family to one of God's precious children.
