Help Kimberly Walk Again

Donation protected
Kimberly was in a serious car accident on March 6th, 2017. A driver in front of her slammed on his brakes because he missed a turn and she went into the back of his Jeep at 30 mph. Unfotunately, she was ticketed. The impact was so severe that her engine in her Honda CRV came off the engine mounts. Her leg was stuck under the steering wheel and her right ankle was severely displaced. She experienced a tibia pilon fracture (tibia and fibula bone completely shattered  at the ankle joint), tibia plateau (knee fractures) and an ACL and LCL tear.  The injury resulted in two surgeries thus far with 5 plates, numerous rods, and over 30 screws surgically implanted to rebuild the damage to her right leg and ankle.  Since the time of the accident, she has been non weight bearing and has been under doctors orders to elevate and ice her leg 20 hrs a day!

Kimberly is in need of financial assistance. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated as we work together to support a member of the community who has always worked hard to serve and support others. Kimberly has served Suntree Elementary for several years as the Sponsorship Chairperson. Without her hard work and fundraising abilities, Suntree PTO wouldn't have been able to purchase a new playground in 2016 for the students at Suntree. In addition, with her help, the Suntree PTO was able to provide a free t-shirt to every student, faculty, and staff member at Suntree. Kimberly is also a classroom parent for her daughter's 5th grade class and has served in a variety of different roles since her daughter entered Kindergarten. Kimberly can always be seen at PTO sponsored events, ensuring they run smoothly by assisting with set-up, clean-up and any need in between! As well, Kimberly has couponed for 10 years and has been dedicated to helping several local food pantries and churches with thousands of dollars in donations of much needed items for the less fortunate. She also donates her time helping with food drives during the holidays.

As of June 12th, she thankfully only has to elevate her leg 6-8 hrs a day! The swelling is still an issue whenever she drops her foot down, so mobility continues to prove difficult.  Her surgeon has emphasized the constant need for elevation to reduce the swelling because the consequences of continued swelling could result in additional surgeries and at worst, amputation of her right leg from the knee down. She will begin to bear weight in the coming weeks, but was told it will be a very slow process and will not be able to walk until October or November. Unfortunately, she cannot drive until then. After she is full weight bearing, her surgeon will then perform the 2 additional surgeries she is need of. She has recently started physical therapy 3 days a week for range of motion only.

At the time of the accident, Kimberly was separated from her husband.  He has moved back in to assist with taking Brielle to school and soccer; however, primary care responsibilities are Kimberly's alone.  As well, she was just notified by the property management company that the owner of the home she rents, wants to sell it. Therefore, in addition to the  expense of moving, she and Brielle will have to pack and find a new place to live.  Kimberly owns a one person business, however, due to the extent of her injuries, has not been able to work since the accident. Her car was totaled and the insurance payout is being used for living expenses.  Come November she will need to purchase a used car.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the numerous friends and family members who have been a tremendous light during a very dark time, providing thoughtful conversation, transportation for Kimberly's daughter, Brielle, from school, activities, and various appointments, in addition to bringing delicious meals that have sustained the family during the initial stages of this process.

Please consider helping one of our very dedicated parents and volunteers in their time of need. If you are unable to help monetarily, please share this page with others.

Warmly,
Sheri-Lynn Diskin and Charine Lewis
