HELP KALI FIGHT HEART DISEASE!

My amazing childhood friend's fearless, courageous, intelligent, beautiful precious baby girl, Kali, is fighting for her life. Kali was diagnosed with a rare disease called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM) earlier this week. Restrictive Cardiomyopathy is a rare form of heart muscle disease that is characterized by restrictive filling of the ventricles. In this disease, the contractile function (squeeze) of the heart and wall thicknesses are usually normal, but the relaxation or filling phase of the heart is very abnormal. This occurs because the heart muscle is stiff and poorly compliant and does not allow the ventricular chambers to fill with blood normally. This inability to relax and fill with blood results in a “back up” of blood into the atria (top chambers of the heart), lungs and body causing the symptoms and signs of heart failure. Currently, there are not any therapies that can “cure” this disease; however, some treatments are available that can improve the symptoms.

As a parent, you always fear the worst. These are not the words any parent expects to hear. How is it even possible? You have so many thoughts that run through your mind. Right now, Malynda and Kevin are watching their innocent child fighting to see the next chapter in her life. Kali is a warrior. She is a fighter. We as their friends have to help them remain strong—for Kali.


We have to help them fight this fight together. 

They are currently at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Kali has completed an MRI today. She is set to have a heart catheterization and a biopsy of her heart. The doctors are trying to figure out how to treat this disease and she will be here indefinitely.

 Many people have reached out to them to ask how they can help. 

Their greatest need at this time will be financial and moral support as they will incur a large number of medical expenses.

Today I am asking for your help for our friend and her precious family. The future remains unknown. There is not a timeline of when this disease can be fixed for Kali. Through this difficult and unbearable moment in their lives, I ask for your prayers for them. I ask for you to speak to God to mend their baby’s broken heart. 

The funds will be used to go towards any travel expenses, lost wages and medical necessities towards Kali and her family.

Let’s come together to help their family. Please continue to keep the medical staff in your prayers as well. They play a vital role in providing Kali with comfort in this difficult time.
