Josh Lingo is the middle sibling of 3, sandwiched between our youngest brother and me. He’s the father of 3 beautiful kids (Peyton 10, Cohan 8, Harper 4) and he’s married to Katie - an incredible woman who brings out the very best in him. He's quiet and kind and very funny. He easily finds humor in life and I can always count on Josh to make me laugh.
In early February this year (2018), Josh was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. He’d been having trouble getting over a cold and he couldn’t kick the cough. He started having some shortness of breath so he made a doctor's appointment thinking he might have pneumonia or maybe something a good dose of antibiotics would take care of. A chest x-ray showed what looked like a collapsed lung so the doctor sent him straight to the Emergency Department where a CT scan showed a 9” mass in the right side of his chest cavity. He also had a lot of fluid collecting in his lung which was causing his cough and shortness of breath.
Doctors ran biopsies of the fluid and the tumor and then the waiting began… those 10 days felt like months but then we finally got the news: Hodgkin Lymphoma. No one ever wants to hear they have cancer but it was encouraging to hear doctors explain how treatable it is and how good the odds are for Josh. He’s young, he doesn’t smoke and is otherwise healthy, he has the support of family and friends and did I mention his ability to find humor in things? All of these things will be helpful throughout his treatment.
We are confident in Josh’s recovery but he has a tough fight ahead of him. He’ll need intense chemotherapy for 4-6 months and depending on how the tumor reacts he may also need radiation. Our family will do everything in our power to help Josh beat this thing and we are asking you to consider making a donation to this Go Fund Me site to help Josh and Katie with his growing medical expenses. They are going to throw everything they’ve got into this fight and could use your support.
