Hi, it’s John here.
I’m writing from the red couch where I spend most of my time since the wreck.
Backstory
On August 17th, I got in a terrible wreck in the hills of SW Portland.
This MIPS bike helmet saved my life.
I flew head first through the air at around 20 MPH.
Everything seemed to slow down as I flew.
(The vision of the street coming towards me still replays over and over in my head. )
Impact
I heard my bones snap each time I smashed into the black asphalt.
(I can’t get that sound out of my head.)
I rolled many, many times.
The pain was worse than anything I’ve experienced in my entire life.
I stopped tumbling in the dirt and bushes on the side of a small road.
(What the hell just happened?)
Blood dripped from my right forearm.
I could tell my shoulder area was done.
My right side was so painful I couldn’t catch a breath.
I weakly called for help twice. I couldn’t project my voice.
Too much pain.
I was hurt badly.
Thankfully, a car pulled out of a nearby street.
They saw me in pieces and called an ambulance.
Tests reveal
A shattered clavicle and 6 broken ribs.
Two of those ribs broken twice.
They pumped me with a lot of pain killers.
(We can rebuild him.)
Surgery
They installed a titanium plate and multiple screws where my clavicle was.
My right arm now sits in a sling that rests against my broken ribs.
I’m not allowed to lift anything more than a piece of paper with my right arm.
My physical state varies between extreme discomfort and terrible pain.
I am still bruised from my right knee up to my armpit.
There will be many physical therapy sessions.

This is going to be a tough recovery.
I can’t get back to a full-time work schedule or perform improv shows for at least two months.
I need your help to survive.
I am asking for donations to help pay for rent, food, and life necessities while I recover.
